Nice photos. I’m amazed at the bird flying shot. I have an SX 60HS, and I find it absolutely worthless for any kind of action photo.

Thanks for the compliment. I don’t know if this will be helpful or not, but when shooting action shots with the SX 60HS I only use the viewfinder and always have the camera in the continuous shooting mode. Here’s an example of an action shot with my Canon SX 10, which I just replaced. Same theories applied.

FWIW I have bought refurbished from Cameta and used from KEH. No problems with either. Cameta has in store 1 year warranty on the refurbished they sell. KEH warranty on their used is 6 months. Direct refurbished from Nikon is the shortest warranty but do not recall exact length. That will be stated on their web page.

I actually can't find a sharp point. You picked a tough subject for depth of field.

Now that I look at it more closely on a bigger screen, you've got a point. Take a look at this version. I just re-shot it. Thanks for the candid observation, Dick

I received my new lens today. I think I'm going to love it. Here is the first test shot I took. Any thoughts?

I am a casual photographer looking for a simple, easy to use, post processing program to install on my MacBook Pro. I have just purchased a Fujifilm X-T20 for all-around shooting. I don’t want a program that is complicated or hard to use. Thanks in advance.

I have used Photoshop Elements for years. The bundle with Premier Elements (for movies) is available for $99. I’d go with that, especially since you can now get the Camera Raw plug in with it.

If you feel you need something more powerful, you can easily upgrade to PS CC at a later date. That’s what I did. For $10/mo it’s a pretty good deal. It also includes Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic CC.

I did it pretty much as i said I would used a local adjustment brush with automask and a 4 stop burn on the bird and then removed that burn rebalanced the white balance and a little highlight and shadow adjustment. Then a slight tweak on global white balance trying to keep the water a reasonable shade, fairly close to the d7200 photos the OP posted in the gallery, still a touch of blue in the tail but about the best I could manage with a jpeg.

Thanks for all this useful information. I'm going to try to replicate it. Meanwhile, the D7200 arrived today. I went to the same spot and took a few similar pics. Amazing results. The lighting was a lot different, but nevertheless, the difference between the two cameras is stark to me. The last pic is just for fun ;-)

I got the new Nikon D7200 today and took a few practice shots. I posted them in the Photo Gallery section if you're interested. No White Balance problems with the new camera. Very exciting!

Great news. The new Nikon D7200 arrived today and there are NO problems! May the used one RIP! I went out on a gray, windy, cold day with rain on the way to try it out...I was too excited not to! It's amazing. No Chromatic Aberration, little to no white balance problems that I can see (remember I'm just learning) and the focus is amazing considering how fast all the subjects were moving. I'm now wondering if I'll ever use the Canon SX60HS again? Anyway, thanks for everyone's help in getting me up and running. Now I'm going to go to work on my skills and from here on out only post those images
that I think are worthy, but I did want everyone who helped out to see the results of my first field trip with the new D7200. Thanks again,
Dick

Thank you all. I am looking forward to learning a lot from you pros, and enjoying the pics . Thanks again. Mary

I’m new to the group myself and am overwhelmed by the amount of advice, help and encouragement I’ve received in just a week or so. You’re in good hands here. I was a Canon guy all my life. I just bought a new Canon SX60HS and a Nikon D7200 (arriving today!). The “bridge” model Canon has given me excellent results so far. Can’t tell you yet about the Nikon. Welcome aboard, Dick.

You’ve definitely got this mastered. I’ve never been able to do this before with my low end equipment. I just read some info about the Rule of 11. Set the aperture at f/11 and match the shutter speed to the resulting ISO. What do you think? Is that how you do it? Nice work!
