The press release I saw said $4500 in Canada.

Wow, sure glad you cleared that up for me. I thought he was talking about the California (CA) surcharge for sanctuary cities!! I knew the taxes were high there, but not THAT high!!

Thanks again...

I am planning on a safari next year. I have a really nice set of lenses, but the longest is a 55-200 mm Nikon DX 55-200. I don't want to have to change lenses at the last moment to switch from a close encounter to a one which may even require more than 200mm. Should I pick up a newer version of my current camera and rent a longer telephoto and then carry 2 cameras? Anyone been on such a safari and encountered the need to change lenses so quickly you missed something?

My current camera Nikon D3400 (I bought it partially in preference to other higher end because I liked its weight and feel in my hand)
My prime lenses: Yongnuo35 mm 1:2 , Nikon AF-S 50 mm 1.8G, Rokinon 8 mm 1:3.5 Fish-Eye CS

My Zooms: Nikon DX 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 G (kit), Nikon DX VR AF-S 55-200 mm 1:4-5.6 GII ED, Nikon DX AF-P Nikkor 70-300 mm 1:4.5-6.3 G (kit)

The MOST important thing is to start your regimen of malaria pills at least two weeks prior to arrival in Africa, and maintaining that regimen for at least two weeks after your return to the United States. Concurrently, make damn sure you have been vaccinated against all potential pathogens: typhoid, typhus, yellow fever, smallpox, cholera, D-P-T, M-M-R, meningitis, hepatitis, polio, etc. Several of these are virtually unknown in the US, but are common in Africa, esp. Typhoid and cholera.

The next most important thing is to not go to any area with an Ebola outbreak. Check the websites of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the State Department, and NIH, for travel advisories.

Third, take a camera.

I do ok with them - both images & video - they pay more than other agencies and they made submissions much easier so it's worth submitting even tho sales are much lower than the leaders

Thanks for the helpful info!!

Your sd card is probably too small for the size photo you are trying to shoot? Battery level on my GX-9 is shown by bars, not by number of shots remaining.

We have a lot of them in Maryland. They are a pest. If you crush them they emit a very bad smelling juice. We just grab them with a kleenex tosaue, crush 'em and put them in the waste container. They have been in MD for several years, reproduce a lot, are more active at night, and had a nest near our roof vent. We hate them!! Oh, nice photo, btw.

My big question is: how does that person with the sign know what God thinks? Did he hear it directly or secondhand? And what lens did he use??? LOL....

You will rarely need anything longer than 70mm on a vacation, unless you're hiking in the mountains or across the plains and want photos of birds. A 24-70mm or so f2.8 or f4 is the ideal walk around lens. Have the wife take a superzoom bridge camera for the rare long shots, like a Lumix FZ-200 (28-600mm f2.8).
Go to mitchellk photos or to MEL365 photos and read what the pros recommend.
A 200-600mm FF lens is ridiculously long and heavy to lug around, eapecially in hot and humid VietNam.

Zoom with your legs and/or crop the original are good advice. The attached was shot with a old Sony p&s pocket camera.

E (The f/1.7 version is fine, and $1000 less)
D (essential, but I use the Panasonic 30mm more — I do lots of copy work with it)
B (versatile indoors, but pricey for the amount of use I would give it)
G (only version 2 of this... and only for outdoor work in great light)
A (a GREAT lens, but pricey for the amount of use I would give it)

Thank you Bill. I was hoping you and Linda of Maine would respond, since I value the opinions of you two very highly. Just to confirm, this is the priority order you would choose for taking lenses on a cruise to do street and travel photos? Most of the reading i have done recommend a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-50mm, with most folks recommending in the 28-35mm range. The Pany 7-14 f4 would probably only be used indoors, as you suggested. The Pany 35-100 f2.8 is nice, but I just can't see a bunch of use for a Pany 35-100 f2.8 (70-200mm equivalent) lens on the streets in cities. Am I missing something? I chose the Oly for its longer focal length and it allows me to get macro shots without getting so close to the subject, be it a flower or a coin... also want to dupe some slides with it.
