I posted this again for I did not see it today's listings so this is a repost. Sometimes this happens when I post late in the evening.

It is very small, about half the size of my pinky fingernail with quite a colorful pattern. I've seen many stink bugs however this is the first that I've seen of its kind.

We have a lot of them in Maryland. They are a pest. If you crush them they emit a very bad smelling juice. We just grab them with a kleenex tosaue, crush 'em and put them in the waste container. They have been in MD for several years, reproduce a lot, are more active at night, and had a nest near our roof vent. We hate them!! Oh, nice photo, btw.

This is one of the younger nymphs of the marmorated stink bug. A very common species, but they look very different as nymphs. Another invasive species, btw.

Nice one, I think it probably does have mouth parts.

I believe these are being predated on by one of our Specid wasps.
Food for larva. They end up parasitized.
These do not seem(to me ) to be as bad as what they are replacing. I don't see the damage the other stink bug caused on fruit.
As do many stink bugs, they hibernate. Our houses are a hibernation shelter for them.
Difficult to kill with insecticides. Try hand(in a glove) picking and drop in soapy water.

We get invaded about 2 or 3 times a day when they are smart enough to find a way into the house. You need not crush them. Just gently pick them up with a tissue and tell them they're going on a flume ride. Then flush them down the toilet. They still emit the odor if they get riled up or frightened. Be gentle, then flush away. Several years ago, they were in force and we'd get 10-15 in the house every day. Not so much nowadays. Very cold winters seem to lessen the number that survive.

Instead of wasting tissues, or water by flushing one stink bug down the toilet, get an old plastic cup. I use one that is about 20 ounces, hard plastic, the type you might get at a ballgame. Put liquid dish soap in the cup and water. Mix it around so the water and soap mix, but doesn't get sudsy. Then just either push the stink bug into the cup if they are on a table, counter, curtain, wall, or gently pick it up and drop into the mix. Kills them in seconds and their is no foul odor.

If you only have a few of them, keep the cup on a shelf out of sight. Add water occasionally as it evaporates. When you have a large amount of stink bugs in the cup, then flush the contents down the toilet and refill the cup for the next catch.

I keep the cup on a bookshelf in my den. That is where I seem to get the most stinkbugs in the house, as thats where two computers are that are always on and in use. The next most popular room seems to be the kitchen, probably cause it is very light during the day and always seems to have lights on at night.
