75 years ago I used to catch these by the coffee can full. Hard to find a bug these days by comparison. Now I want to photograph them LOL.

Of the 5 images here, I like #2. But rather than leaving it as dark gray, I would create it as pure black birds against a pure white sky.

I upgraded about a year ago from a 60D to the 7Dii and LOVE it. Purchased used of course, upgraded the firmware and at $800 a year ago nothing can touch it in my opinion! A 90D will cost $1,200. My interests cover a wide range and this is a delight (to me) all round.

I like both, but if I had to pick one I'd go with number one because of the feeling of vastness and the sunbeam shadows. To me the sun and shadows add a lot. The grass gives it depth.

(If the intent is the barn, then number two.)

Thanks, I keep them in denatured alcohol and I change it about every three months. The soft bodied specimens like beetle larva, I dip into scalding water for about a minute to kill the bacteria in its gut to keep them from turning black and then store them in the alcohol.

The fuzzy ones and moths I keep in a sealed container with mothballs to kill and keep out any scavengers that eat on them.

Cleaning the off the crud and the fatty wax that insects exude is the most time consuming part of the preservation process.

Preserving any organic material can be a challenge how do you do it?

I prefer the landscape version because it provides more information about what the woman in the window is looking at. The square version does not do that for me, other than telling me the woman is looking at the tree, maybe.

One spot might not impact the image very much or at all, since the light from one point in the world is entering everywhere on the lens surface, not just that one spot. Take some shots and see. Could be just a little correction in your editor will clean it up.

Do this and avoid ruining the lens. In my experience, and I have many old lenses, only a LARGE OPAQUE spot will impact the image to a noticeable degree. If a drop in contrast (the typical impact) occurs just fix it in PP and have fun with your find.
