At least with Nikon, what you gain in reach you pay for in sharpness big time.

I've been an Adorama customer for years. Spent thousands with them. I hopes that this turns out well for you.

If it isn't $1497 it is probably gray market. Nikon USA sets the prices for their authorized dealers. Keeps everything fair. Just checked Nikonusa.com and Tri State Camera is NOT on the list of authorized US dealers. Run don't walk away from this one.

Steve's other book, Secrets to Exposure and Metering for Nikon, is also a must read for all Nikon DSLR users. Everyone, from beginners to pros, can benefit from reading his books. The best thing though is once you buy either book you get updated versions of that book for free! You can't beat that. Thanks Steve.

Steve Perry a wildlife photographer has been touting this product. I don't own it but thinking seriously of purchasing not a $100 but around $200 for Wemberly product that is pretty reasonable

I own one and it is a great little piece of equipment. If you decide to go this route you will have to replace your lens foot with an arca swiss foot if your lens didn't come with one. I found a used one on Adorama for my 70-200 for $50. New ones run from $80 - $120. Don't know why Nikon doesn't use the arca swiss design for the foot that they include.

You didn't ruin this lens. It was ruined before you got it. The person who sold this lens to you should be shot by a firing squad and then charged for the bullets if they didn't disclose the damage to the rear element. Your attempts to repair the damage were creative but this is not a DIY project. The cost to replace the rear element and realign the elements and VR will probably be more than buying another lens. So chalk this up to a learning experience and start looking on the reliable vendor websites for another lens. You may also want to look at the reviews for the Nikon 18-200 and the 18-300 before you buy.

What you are trying to do is what is known as shooting tethered. It is common amongst professional photographers. You will need software on your laptop. Capture One works well. Nikon has an app but it does not have a good reputation.

I have been scanning the various advertisements for a certain Nikon camera and have found numerous ones with inviting prices. One problem that has got me wondering is how can I discern whether or not a camera has a USA warranty or is it a gray market item. It would be greatly appreciated if someone out there could educate me as to how to identify gray market BEFORE purchase. Thanks.

Here is a list of Nikon's Authorized Dealers:

And Nikon's Gray Market Warning:

Never buy from any dealer that wants to charge you for items that Nikon includes in the box such as straps, lens caps or pouches, instruction manuals, or warranty cards. Never buy from a dealer who tells you that the store warranties the Nikon product so there is nothing to worry about.

I'm sure that the tier 2 lens manufacturers have similar lists on their websites also.

I bought my wife a Nikon DX VR AF-P, f4.5 - 6.3 G ED for her Nikon D3300. We are both late 70s. She has back trouble and some shaking in her hands. She wanted a bit more reach for coastal birding. Of course VR was important. I was puzzled that the lens, clearly marked VR has no VR switch. I was ready to accuse the seller of fraud, but found that newer AF-P Lenses may not have the switches, but they the stabilization is achieved by the camera. I assume that this is only true off lower end lenses. Also, I read that her camera's firmware might need to be updated to utilize the stabilization. I tried to download the D330p firmware update, but it did not download properly and the exe file would not open. Comments, suggestions, information will be appreciated.

I'd like to try to help you but I have a few questions. Which lens did you purchase, the 70-300mm by chance? Did you purchase the lens from a store? If so which one? Also if you don't mind what did you pay for it?
