Nice set. For me personally I like #2 the best as you saw this composition and have a good eye to see it's beauty. This is a much better image as it is more intimate and you show it does not always have to be super wide.

My whole life has been spent not following the rules .., in photography .. I don’t abide by composition , natural color , or a specific reality of the shot ...I take and edit a shot the way I like it and generally can’t be happier than when I like it ..

Most of my life has been as a product designer and packaging designer .. , so I View so many of my finished works as an ad that I would see on a poster , packaging , or n ad .

Picture the Mighty Mo Shot as presented .. and picture it printed as such on say a clothe bag you buy at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center .., It would catch your eye , and be unique , and would move a few bags ..
Or the same shot printed on a T - shirt ...

Years ago, I created , designed and marketed the biggest selling Hawaiian Board game of all time called “HAWAII THE ALOHA GAME”. The Governor Of Hawaii had me present and autograph , at his request , 2 of the board games to the presidential Family (Clinton’s) ..At the Governors lounge while they were here in Hawaii .. Parker Brothers said at my booth in the New York toy show , that my board game was the most Well done use of colors and graphics they have ever seen .. this was in the 90’s and I used 7 color printing ,

I find regular natural photographs to be boring ..cany .., yours don’t fit that category .., and I follow your work along with A dozen others on the blog .. I have done some natural ., by what I can consider my natural look , I just posted today a shot I took last week of Aloha Tower ..that version is what I call my natural look ..

I have always liked the pizzaz .., color and Brilliant presentation of ads and art work ... and gravitate towards them .. Generally I like to produce shots that are somewhere between a photo and artful presentations .. , I do photo editing for clients all, over the world and have had no complaints ... one is a travel, magazine photographer who has neither the time nor patients to edit .., so he sends them to me.. of course .. being a travel, magazine .. the pictures need to be a little more than “el natural” .., the sea color .. skies .. all must be overblown a tad to convey to the traveler the beauty awaiting them at such and such a destination ..

I halve done photo restoration for years and enjoy the delight of the senders emotions at the results ..

I get photos emailed to me while the client is on a ship .., has a bunch of shots to share with newfound onboard friends and the ship is docking in two days .. the best shots of the cruise /and friends didn’t all turn out too well and the client wants me to fix them and get them back to him before the ship docks .. (RUSH JOB) .., and be able to get said shots to the friends before they leave the ship ..

Anyway .., I have done what I would call some beautiful work and posted it on this Hog blog .., and a lot was classed as overblown / too saturated and unnatural.., and some were very well received .., but that’s how I do it ..

My good stuff gets 2-3 thousand views and I’m happy with that .., my last post a week ago .., the B&W of the Golden Gate Bridge and the fog .., seemed to be a winner .. my Yosemite Tunnel Views generally are not bad ..
My Arizona Memorial shots .., well they are a stretch , . but beautiful ... unlike anyone else’s .. My “Waikiki Wave” posted a few days ago ...well .. I yet to see anyone Match it .., Shot at that location , in the history of the Hogg .., But again .., shot and edited my way .. I had a local, artist ask if they had my permission to paint it on canvas .., I said, have at it ..!

It is easy to shoot “el Natural’ .., and post it with the slightest of post editing , but I work at doing what I do as “THAT’S Me... I am thankful you asked , and the answer is I just do,it a certain way .. like an artist who just finished some art and says “ Finished > ! Hope some like it .., some won’t .. the Nitch that does .., why that’s my reward ..

You truely understand what you like in photography and show it. Marching to a different drummer is a good thing and helps you stand out from a crowd of millions.

Far too many protest too much about self imposed rules that constrain and restrict their creativity and leaving them unfilled as an artist/photographer. I don't ask for anyone's critique and do my own thing. If not to their liking so be it and I really don't care.

Personally I like the image and the sky makes it pop off the page. I belong to a few Facebook groups and the images that receive the most likes and comments are always images such as yours. I scroll past images that are just regular photographs with no pizzazz.

Of course this change in habit would burn up a few brain cells for most ‘old timers’ and goodness knows, brain cells are in short supply here on UHH.

And with such a rude presentation you have turned most off of you ideas on this subject. Really why IS this so important to you or others anyway?

My wife and I went there several years ago. It's a fascinating place. I have a piece of rock from there also.

I would not advertise this, as it is only a rock but being a National Monument may not be ok to take. Reason being is if everyone who visited took a piece of a place with them what would these places look like? A million visits like that and the park would be changed.

Add to the fact it is sacred ground for Native Americans.

Forward the email to your local FBI office. They will want to know about it.

This goes on all the time so I doubt the FBI can do a thing to stop it as they most likely are not in their jurisdiction. Just delete it.

Stop by the Black Fly booth. I am fascinated with that aircraft. The future of travel will change because of it imo.

I shoot with a D800 and raw files run about 35mb. I shoot her and load 3 images at a time. It takes about 5 minutes to proccess those images on 12gig ram system. You will notice a difference in processing time for sure. In jpeg only probably not too much though.

I shot a lot handheld but have since been using a tripod more for a number of reasons. Most importantly it forces me to slow down and compose my shot more. I also want the sharpest images I can get.

I went from the 7100 to the 800 for the larger resolution and low light performance. I am sure you will love the 850.

I seldom use a lens hood. As far as protection from the sun? It is there to eliminate lens flare not for protection. As far as bumping the front element never had a mishap in all the years shooting. You worry too much what others are doing when it does not matter.

No. This image depicts trespass and danger no matter if he had the ok to be there. Not wise to flaunt this activity to impressionable minds and copy cats.

So a washed up has been controversial quaterback that no one wants to risk can now tell corporate giants what to manufacture. Nike is stupidly going the wrong way on this. Not that I would buy their shoes with inflated pricing sold by inflated egotistical ex-athletes.

Everything can be r****t now days if you want it to be. God I wish people could grow a brain and think for themselves.

I have a D7100 and I like it. But no comparison with the D500.... you will see how sharp it is despite "only" 20 MP.

It's not the MP that determines sharpness. Resolution will allow you to print big but will not mean it is sharp.

It does have nice detail. I have a 7100 and 800 and each has their own useful purpose. The 500 is a nice body for sure. Enjoy.

Thanks Mac and JohnSwanda. You caught a great typo I had made. I meant my 28-135mm Zoom Lens is used for the most part as a prime lens.

After my question was asked, I'm getting some feedback on my thread about an Intervalometer. I don't know if I want to spend upwards of $80 for a fancy shutter release. On the other hand, it does sound interesting for time delay shots which I don't do often.

The more people chime in on this thread make me realize there are gifted photographers willing to advise and teach.

Thanks Y'all!

I got my generic ones for my nikon for less than 30 and they work just fine. I use mine for a remote shutter release mainly and very handy in my opinion. Mine have a 100ft range also allowing you to set up the shot and sitting back to wait for the moments to happen from a distance. I do not regret getting mine at all.
