Can someone please explain the basic concepts of composition in easy terms? I'm still not sure what the rules are or how to achieve them in my pics.

As some of you know, I went on a photo shoot yesterday. Here are 2 or 3 pics from my shoot. I'm trying to work on composition and taking pics of buildings, city life. Any comments are helpful. Thanks!

My camera is a Nikon d70. I have windows xp and use the "photos" that came with xp. I went to neftojpeg.com. I can't figure out if it installed a readable NEF file or not. After I viewed the pics I went back into my file in photos and I still couldn't see them.

Yesterday I went on a photo shoot. I shot in RAW. I put my pics on the computer to learn my computer cannot read NEF files. I found a converter on the Internet. It converted all my files so I could view them. But after I closed the program and went into my pics they are still in NEF. What can I do? Is there a download which will convert them permanently? Or a download which can make my computer read NEF?

Thank you so much for starting this discussion! I have heard of the rules of thirds, c curves, s lines etc but still not sure how to get them into the picture to be a strong statement. (hope this makes sense). Thanks for sharing. I'll try and play around with these in my pictures. CharleneT

Hello Everyone, I have been in the background for a couple of weeks now. I have enjoyed your posts, ideas, pics, and introductions. I finally decided to actually join this group. I'm a transplant from Washington State. I have lived in SC for 3 years now. I love the sun, yes, I actually see it! Anyway, this year I decided to dig out my old Nikon D80, and learn to use the settings other than auto. Lately I have read on the internet and some library books on f stop, shutter speed and ISO, maybe some day I will figure out how they all work! LOL! The pictures I like to take most are of nature. I would like to learn how to take good pics of city structures and some portraits. Look forward to getting to know all of you! Charlene T
