As some of you know, I went on a photo shoot yesterday. Here are 2 or 3 pics from my shoot. I'm trying to work on composition and taking pics of buildings, city life. Any comments are helpful. Thanks!

Charlene,
One of the comments I got when I started sharing my photos with more experienced folks is "What's the subject?" and "What's the message?". This is not clear in your photos. In #1, is it about the sailboats? If so, get closer and crop out the other stuff. The second could be about the trees, the architecture, the color of the buildings, or something else. The last one might be about architecture or a bank building for sale. Try that one again with better light on the face of the building. I have the feeling you had some message you wanted to convey, but it's not clear. Be more emphatic!

You might also post in the critique section. I have not followed that closely, but it may be useful. Keep shooting and learning. John

I like to shoot RAW files most of the time, because RAW file contain more data and I can always convert to jpeg.
New Shooter, just go out and have fun using different camera settings, perspective, lighting, composition, etc.. using proper camera handling and learning. Have fun, practice, have fun, practice, learn, test, review and have fun. Oh, don't be over critical and try not too over compare your photographs to others, develop your own style, for ideas you can go links here on UHH and search youtube.
Best of practice + practice + learn = skill.

"They" say your first 10000 shots are your worst. So keep shooting. A suggestion would be to study popular photos in the categories that you find interesting. These shots you posted are not great. Also try to find "interesting" things to take pictures of. Study photo books from the local library. Good luck.

Charlene, br One of the comments I got when I star... (show quote)

This is so not true! I love #1 because you have the boats and the land. I love #2 because you can see the sun on the trees and the buildings in the shadows. I love #3 because it is a beautiful old building, true it could have better lighting but you can't move the sun! Post processing would fix #3. All you need to do is darken the high lights and brighten the shadows. Very simple. Love the photos.
