Since some Hoggers seem to be model railroaders (as I am), photographing our layouts and dioramas is a natural combination. It might be fun to see what y’all are up to.

I dug out my old Marklin rolling stock during COVID, and rekindled my interest in the hobby. My 4’ x 8’ layout (on top of our unused dining room table) evolves constantly, but my theme is a German city that has the old city walls along side newer structures, roughly in the period following WWII. The locomotives are diesel. Marklin is a 3-rail AC system, and my layout has three controlled loops.

I hope other Hoggers let us see their layouts.

Ed, where are you? Perhaps the shipping cost could be avoided if you offered local pickup.

Super series. Thanks for sharing.

It could be a male-female interaction. My immediate interpretation was that the smaller bird on the right was a juvenile pestering the adult for food. One trouble with birds is that you can’t ask them why they do something

When a neighbor photographic hobbyist psssed away, the widow asked if I would dispose of the camera gear. It was significantly more challenging than I had imagined. The collection was medium-sized, but not current (newest piece maybe five years old). The big pieces were relatively easy. After completing an inventory, I got quotes from a number of resellers, and UsedPhotoPro was the “winner.” I had briefly entertained the notion of selling the collection piece by piece, but the prospect was overwhelming. The widow did not care for top dollar, just wanted he gear gone.

UPP did not take everything, however, and long time members might recall that I endeavored to sell a number of items here in the classifieds. Eventually, i listed a bunch of accessories as “free for shipping.” The remaining dregs, while interesting, went in the garbage.

The point of the story is to reinforce what Paul suggested. Disposing of unused items now gets you the highest dollar value and saves your heirs a considerable amount of trouble.

I look forward to the day that I take this advice myself!

Yes, the “retro” look is a fad, but most of the comments here miss the point. Nikon sells cameras all over the world, and I understand that the Zfc was a HUGE success in Japan and, more importantly, China. While the company would be happy to sell these to nostalgic old farts in the US, I am sure the target market is the young people in Asia.

Along the Atlantic Coast of Long Island, we have been watching the ocean getting more aggressive as Hurricane Lee moves closer. I took this shot at just after sunrise, and Lee is still a long way away.

A great photo, I can see why it is your favourite. I grew up living near a busy main-line in the Adelaide Hills (South Australia) at the end of the steam era and traveled extensively in passenger trains hauled by steam locomotives before they were eventually phased out. The sight, sound and smell of a steam locomotive brings back many happy memories of those early days of my life. Thanks for sharing Clark.

Glad you enjoyed it, TD. Thanks for your comment.

The 500PF works fine with the 1.4TC. It is the camera that needs to be able to AF at f8. One alternative to a TC, of course, is to use a DX body or the DX mode on a high mp body. The combo of the 500PF and a D500 is a killer wildlife and BIF rig.

Yikes, much too vague! What do you have? What have you tried? What do you shoot (or want to shoot)? Budget? New/used? If you don’t specify, you will get a firehose of responses, as well as many, like me, who want more information. Welcome to UHH! Most of us want to help, but specific requests get the best answers.

They are always worth more to you than what you can sell them for if you bought them new. That's why I never sold anything I bought new. I sold a lot of stuff that I bought used and often for more than what I paid for.

The logical conclusion to this line of thinking is that one should never buy anything new, which from an financial point of view makes a lot of sense. The only reason I have purchased new items involve desirable items (to me) like a Z9, which would not hit the used market for a long time. However, whether bought new or used, everything ages, and the market decides its value.

My preferred reseller is UsedPhotoPro, the used equipment division of Roberts Camera. I suggest adding them to your list if you go that route.

However, selling here is my first choice. Lately, there have been a few really annoying people who will try to lowball the seller, but for the most part the transactions are cordial and satisfactory. For pricing, check eBay and filter to the <Sold> items to see the going prices. For UHH, I try to hit at the reasonable lower end of that scale.

You as the seller will be hit with a roughly 3% fee if PayPal is used, and shipping will vary by location. You can choose to absorb these, or keep them separate for the buyer to pick up. However, there are no fees from UHH, unlike the fees charged by Bay.

Whether you want to consider lower offers is up to you. Selling loved gear, like selling a house, is always hard. Be prepared that you will never get as much for it as you think you “should.”

Best of luck with your selling.

Nice shots! In general, images are more interesting when the subject is not dead center. If I were framing your first image, for example, I would shift the hummer a little to the left. I would also crop it a little tighter, but that is a more subjective decision.
