Can anyone speak authoritatively about using 20+ year-old black & white film, and whether any special exposure or processing is called for? No, it has not been stored in a freezer.

I'm about to start testing all my old collection of 35mm cameras and I have a bunch of old film I have acquired. Even just mixed up a batch of D-76 developer powder and Kodak Fixer powder, both at least 20 years old.

Do powdered chemicals have a shelf life? They don't have expiration dates on them.

This looks like one of many ads on the Internet from nefarious swindlers who ship shoddy merchandise with little or no recourse.
There isn't any indication in this ad who the "company" is, where they are, how to contact them other than just giving them your email address.
Run away. You can find real backpacks from real legit companies by the zillions very easily online.

Is there a market for unopened double 8 mm movie film? I have one 25 ft. roll & one unknown type of Kodak movie film in sealed tin without the box.

Only for a memorabilia collector. There is no place to get Kodachrome processed anymore.

Regardless of all that, if it opens with new owners there will be a new corporate philosophy. You will be starting fresh with an unknown factor.

Right. A "new" Cameta would be an unknown, just like any new business. Numerous famous and beloved photo dealers (and manufacturers) have gone under, only to see the name revived by bad operators.

You can only hope that a good operation is carried on by a new owner. Opening up any business after its namesake has gone under is an act of faith.

I know full well that many countries, including the US, is developing bio weapons and trying to learn how to counteract them (my father is a microbiologist/virologist), but there are a number of facts that suggest that even if it was accidentally released from the W***n v******y, it was not intended as a weapon. First, every virologist that has published their results shows that this was from an animal (likely a bat), not a human engineered v***s. Secondly, while it is certainly caused world chaos and caused a world wide financial depression, it’s not a very effective bioweapon as it k**ls mostly the aged and the infirm, not young healthy soldiers. Finally, what has China to gain? A huge amount of their trade is with the US. If they hurt US purchasing of Chinese goods (consumer spending was down 9% last month, and much of that was for Chinese products), it just hurts their economy as much as ours. It MAY turn out to be an accidental release from a lab in China, but I doubt it was an engineered bio attack. Having said all that, the Chinese are clearly in an expansionistic stance, especially in the South China Sea, and they are becoming closer to the Russians, Iranians and of course, the North Koreans, so I do agree that we need to be very cognizant of the threat.

Have to take exception to your saying "as it k**ls mostly the aged and the infirm, not young healthy soldiers."

It already HAS k**led some young American soldiers. Most recent is the sailor from the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt. And with the large number of infected shipmates, it is certainly possible more might die.

There's a big difference between "at lower risk" and "immune". Let's not think that there is ANY group that doesn't have to worry.

Perhaps there should be a mass Darwin Award for those people who say "It can't happen here in MY state", and don't see a need for SOCIETY to do what it can to protect itself. Then you can get the V***s, die off, and the human gene pool will be rid of your genetic material.

Is Michigan putting up a closed border to keep everyone in so that you won't carry your C****av***s anywhere else?

There's a state with the motto "Live Free or Die". You can also live free AND die. Just don't pretend you are only hurting yourself.

Dribs and dabs of info don't give a 'full picture'. Maybe no one actually knows! A doctor tells of someone who has recovered from C***d, but tests positive up to a month after recovery. Another story is about people who recover and don't have any immunity from another case, or have 'limited' immunity for maybe 6 months!

Perhaps it is because all of us are experiencing this for the first of many times!

Here is a link to a story in Wired Magazine about what we may have learned from China, S. Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. about letting their 'guard' down too soon.

We all need to know more about what we might have to expect in our collective futures.

The current p******c is a few months old. The Spanish Flu p******c of 1918 lasted three years.

So what do you want to know?

Hi, I found my old canon 420 EX flash while cleaning out some boxes. My question is can this be used on my Canon 5D m4 or my 80D. I'm being told by some locals that it will mess up the main board in the cameras. If that is true would it work as an off camera flash with a wireless trigger. I know it is about 35 years but you never know till you ask!

Thanks
Tom

"Some locals" are ignorant of Canon flash systems.

A 420EX flash can safely and effectively used ON a Canon digital camera... DSLR or bridge camera. That's what it was made for. The limitation is it is auto only---no manual setting ability. E-TTL only. So maybe not effective for off-camera use with a remote trigger. With a camera-to-flash extension cord, fine.

A 420EZ, the older series introduced for the original EOS film cameras, can also be be used on digital cameras (acting in A-TTL mode), and has the benefit of manual settings too, so it's ideal for off-camera use, wireless as well as with an extension cord.

ALL EZ and EX flashes, being made for EOS autofocus cameras, have low enough trigger voltages so as to not be harmful to modern cameras.

It is a very good idea to give a networked printer a STATIC (manually-assigned by you) IP address, rather than using the default method of it getting an address from a DHCP server (which is one of the functions of your router). Using DHCP, the printer's address can change, and then computers lose the ability to see it as it was originally installed.

Your printer's settings functions have the ability to configure it for a static IP address. But before doing this, you need to set aside a range of addresses on your router that will be reserved for static/manual assigning. Get a knowledgeable person to help you with this if need be. I am one such person, but I can't see or manipulate your printer and router. Your internet provider may be able to help you. Or a computer-savvy friend.

A friend needed a printer, and I have a collection of Canon iP4500s. I got one from the garage - five blinks: bad print head. I brought out three more, and they all did the five blink print head signal. I swapped heads and examined the heads - nothing unusual. Very annoying. I'm sure those printers worked when I put them away. Even the one I have here, on this computer, has a bad print head. I recently bought new Canon ink ($72) for that printer, and now it doesn't work.

Do any of you know what goes wrong with print heads? There's not much to this one. It's basically a basket that holds the cartridges. I have one more printer upstairs, but I'm not hopeful.

The "basket" that holds the ink tanks also includes the printheads. What goes wrong with printheads is the ink dries out and clogs the nozzles in the head. The clogs may or may not cleanable. Use the head cleaning utility in the printer software, perhaps repeatedly. If this fails, you can try to salvage the basket/head unit by wiping the nozzle areas with a cotton swab LIGHTLY dampened with isopropyl alcohol, then wiped off.

The best way to maintain an inkjet is to USE it, even if only printing something that uses all the ink colors. A typewritten page with lines of different colors will do.

Head cleaning uses a lot of ink, so it's better to KEEP the heads clear than to (try to) clean them after they've clogged.

No print heads. Electronic printing is done by pulses sent from the software to the cartridge which prints.
Print heads are for matrix style printers and plotters that make physical contact with paper.
Contact Canon.

Wherever do you get your information from?

OF COURSE an inkjet printer has printheads. Ink is not sprayed right from a tank. Ink goes from a tank to a printhead. It is sprayed by the nozzles in the printhead.

The printhead(s) can be integrated with the tank in a cartridge unit, or the heads can be separate units.

dust seems to have been the problem. any tips on changing to Win 10 from win 7? free? advice?

If you have licensed Windows 7 and the license key, it is STILL free to install Windows 10 and activate it. You may not even have to enter the license key if the computer already has a Digital License.

Has to be like versions....Home to Home, Pro to Pro. Can't go from 7 Home to 10 Pro (unless you buy a 10 Pro license).

Anyone with a Windows 10 machine can make 10 install media (directly to a flash drive or to an .iso file for burning a DVD) using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool
