Strange ocurrence with a printer

I use a Canon Pixma TR8250 in conjunction with a new Dell Inspiron All-in-One. I have good luck with this printer and normally for any photo printing I do them at a lab. I use this printer with a wire in the computer. No Wi-Fi. Lately when I print, and it isn't that often, to get the printer to work I must pull the connection from the computer and reconnect. If I don't do that it won't print. Any idea's why? Thanks.

Do you have another usb port you can connect it to - see if that works.....if not, you might need to uninstall the printer and reinstall it.

Maybe uninstall and reinstall the driver.

I just went through five iP4500 printers that said they had bad print heads or a paper jam (when there was no jam). Printers are great when they work.

I had a Dell that started having port problems. Ended up getting a new one.

Are you connecting via USB cable or network cable ? A network cable has a plug at the end that looks like an extra big telephone jack. USB on the printer side is a square end that goes into the printer.

Network cable from the printer, USB to the computer.

It is a very good idea to give a networked printer a STATIC (manually-assigned by you) IP address, rather than using the default method of it getting an address from a DHCP server (which is one of the functions of your router). Using DHCP, the printer's address can change, and then computers lose the ability to see it as it was originally installed.

Your printer's settings functions have the ability to configure it for a static IP address. But before doing this, you need to set aside a range of addresses on your router that will be reserved for static/manual assigning. Get a knowledgeable person to help you with this if need be. I am one such person, but I can't see or manipulate your printer and router. Your internet provider may be able to help you. Or a computer-savvy friend.

Good luck with that. I had a Canon printer that had a problem I couldn't resolve, so I called Canon for help. Their comment after I explained my problem, was "GOOD LUCK"! the guy just hung up. Same thing happened with a Canon Scanner, "GOOD LUCK"!

I got rid of everything I had with the Canon name on it! It was all deposited in an electronic recycle bin.

My DSLRs are Canon. I'd been a staunch Pixma printer fanboy from 2000 to 2018.
I've dabbled with HP, Brother and Epson printers - all were faulty.
Canon's printer QC has finally fallen below the acceptability threshold.
My Pixma 922 died in 2 years with the infamous printhead error (class action suit - but too late for me)
I'm done with them all. Found a bargain priced Ricoh C261SFNw Color Laser (WiFi AIO).
Setup instructions were NIL - but the manual was complete enough for a Geek to get it done.
Yeah - - I'll pay a bit more for the replacement cartridges - but probably less life-cycle costs than replacing a Canon Printer every 2 - 3 years.

If you're using Windows, type in print management in the start search field (lower left of display) to bring up the Print Management tool. Select All Printers on the left, check the status and print queue of the printer on the right.

On the far right, with the printer selected, "Actions", click show extended view, and at the bottom, click print web page. This will show what Windows "sees", and might help in pinpointing the problem.

Does the printer have a sleep mode?
