I am considering the 10-18mm from Sony for my NEX 5n. $800 plus is a big number- is there an alternative below $500? I am replacing my 16MM pancake, as I dont get the wide angle effect I expected

I also have the 5n; I love the sharpness on the screen, but when I D/L pictures to my PC, they don't look as great. I am betting I lose resolution when I transfer the images to in my Post-processing app; believe it or not, I still use Microsoft's Digital Image Suite, no longer on the market but real easy to use. I now have Photoshop Elements but need to learn how to use it. They have a tutorial but of course I don't bother with that.
BTW, I have a dozen repies to my post named "Hummingbirds". What I learned is just incredible. You guys rock!

Pat's Cheesesteak is world famous, cannot miss. There are wonderful photo ops. around the Art Museum or Boathouse Row, near the Art Museum, on the Schuykill River. Go down to Headhouse Square for people watching, stroll up 2nd street for small local restaurants. The Historic Section is nearby. Stroll up Pine street in the Historic District, many original townhomes on cobblestone streets dating from the Revolutionary period. The Pine Street church a must- Ben Franklin & other leaders worshipped there. Restaurant fare is diverse-South Philly near the stadiums feature Italian specialties; There are very high end choices in the middle of town- The Capital Grill is where all our storied politicials meet to sup and cut deals. Bring a boatload of cash. We love the Chart House overlooking the Delaware river; Nearby is a converted schooner in the water named Musholu; B- fare, but love the maritime surroundings. A bit pricey. Chinatown an obvious choice also. Go to OpenTable.com, select Philadelphia to find a number of great places, make reservations on line. You will run out of time bebore you capture all the great venues. Oh- run across the Ben Franklin Bridge to find the NJ Aquarium, next to the USS New Jersey, open for tours. Wonderful scenes of Center City Philadelphia from the deck of the USS NJ. Have fun!

As a former IBM-er, I am late to the Apple party. However, the iPhone 5 with the Camera+ App (from iTunes) takes amazing pictures, and you won't have two devices to carry around.
My Sony NEX is another alternative to check out. Lots of Pro photographers carry it, and, some say it has more capabilities than DSLR cameras, and is worlds smaller.

I have an unreal chance to shoot hummingbirds. A family moved in my back yard, and show up every AM and evenings to sup at the sugar water I put out. I am somewhat hamstrung by my ability AND my awesome collection of e-mount lenses for my NEX- 5n. I have the stock 18-55mm, and the 16 mm Wide Angle pancakes from Sony. I just began shooting, can't get closer that 8-10 feet or they disappear. So I took the first shots on the zoom lens, at 400 ISO, 5.6 . I can select 2.8 and up to 1/4000 on the camera in Aperture mode. I know there are a lot of birders in UHH; could you advise the best settings given my limitations? tyvm!
PS- would using the 16 MM help at all? I cant believe I bought this thing- I don't see much Wide Angle out of it but maybe I don't know how to use it. I am thinking the Sony 55-210 lens would be a better Wide angle.

Here is a quick shot of my first bird this AM- I cropped the heck out of it to get just the bird. I need help huh?

I sold my Sony a-100 and Sigma 50-200 WAL on ebay,
bought a Nex-5n. I had almost mastered the A-100, but remain befuddled with the dials and gizmos in the NEX. I may be fighting it (mark me down as a hobbyist, although I use it in my real estate business); I would love a simplified guide to taking pictures in low light with the NEX.
I have had some really good shots, but the interiors are challenging. I do use fill flash, at least. Anybody want to volunteer ideal settings in low light? I bet the camera can do it.

Hello All!
Havs anyone found a good wide angle lens for the E-mount?
I am sure Sony's is great, but I am gagging on the $828 price. I searched several web sites, tried used at Ebay, nothing came up. Any suggestions would be appreciated
