Here is a link to my test with both lens:

I have sense sold all my Canon gear and switched to a Pentax.
I used Pentax for decades but jumped to Canon for digital - Pentax was lagging at the time.
What persuaded you to change?

I really liked the 5Dc, but decided I wanted a lighter outfit, plus live view and much higher iso capability. Plus the Pentax K5 II has weather proofing. It has built in wireless flash capability with external flash guns. I also like the backward capability of all the Pentax lens mounts.

Like others have said, being in public makes anyone fair game to have their photo taken, unless it makes money.
If you are going to pay the shoe less homeless person something, then the Officer should also be paid. Both had their photo taken without permission, if it was needed.
When I had my Canon FF I shot landscape with both 24-70 and 70-200L. When shooting with the 24-70 most of my shots were near 24mm, but I also enjoyed shooting landscape with the 70-200mm, mostly around 150 plus mm. It all depends on what you like.
Like the others said, for wildlife, unless your shooting in a zoo, even 200 could be too short. When I did try to shoot wildlife with a crop body I found 300mm was a little short. But I never got into wildlife too much, so it was probably more my lack of style than anything.
Thank you for the information. After posting the question here I did what I should have done first, just Google the question. I got lots of info and basically came away with that if your shooting jpeg it doesn't matter at all, and in raw 14 bit makes only a slight difference in the shadows if you shoot underexposed. The file size will be a little larger for the 14 bit.
I don't think I will let that enter into what camera to buy.
Does anyone know if there is a noticeable difference in the final image between a 12 bit raw and 14 bit raw file? These would be dng files from a Pentax. I am thinking about switching from Canon to one of the new Pentax cameras (K-30 or K-5 II).
I have never used the "cloud" for backup, but while back it was in the news about about a person in a lawsuit who used the cloud to restore his computer but didn't realize his ISP had a restriction on total bandwidth allowed. He went over the bandwidth and the ISP terminated his contract. In his area there were few choices for a ISP.
Lesson learned, check to see if you have any restrictions in the small print.
I hadn't thought about insurance, I don't have specific insurance for my camera gear but I should look into that. I don't know if my home owners insurance covers this or not. I wouldn't think something like this would be covered, but who knows.
Thanks for the info, I will look into it.
For the past few weeks I have been trying to figure out why my Sigma 24-70 has been having focus problems. It's about six years old. Then last week I noticed the reason why, the main body is cracking about 1/3 the way around, right above the lens mount. This has been one of my most used lens and I don't know what I did to cause the damage.
It's off to Sigma for repair, hopefully it's is repairable and won't cost more than it's worth. I had been thinking about selling it toward the cost of the Canon 24-105mm, or the 17-40mm.
Oh well, life happens.
Jeffrey Fridel's Lightroom plugins are great for publishing & exporting photos to either your hard drive, or several different web photo sites. I use it for my Zenfolio & Facebook pages. The price for each plug in is what ever you want to pay, donations accepted.

Excellent post. I look forward to the next installment.
