I have a Canon EOS T3i, along with a Tamron 18-270mm, f/3.5-6.3, which I currently use. In my bag, I also have a Canon Zoom EF 75-300mm, f/4-5,6; and a Canon EFS 18-55mm. These last two were purchased with my original camera about 7 years ago.
I like to take a lot of flower pictures, so I'm considering a Macro lens (and I've heard that a Macro does take some good portraits, although I don't do many of these.
My question is, "which of the following would be the best purchase?"
A. Canon EF 100mm, f/2.8L Macro IS (Amazon $900)
B. Canon EF 50mm, f/2.5 Compact Macro (Amazon $269)
C. Tamron SP 60mm, f/2 Macro w/internal focusing (Amazon $524)
Feedback would be appreciated.

From your list:
A. Canon EF 100mm, f/2.8L Macro IS (Amazon $900)
is the clear winner in all regards.
Great shot!
I'd probably have to break out my teleconverter. :|

Also if you want to spend less money the Sigma 105mm macro is excellent as is the Tamron 90mm macro most of your name brand true macro lens are excellent and extremely sharp.
Hey, I never knew that snakes had tiny writing printed on their tongues. Can you read what it says on the high res version?
nice snake, colunbrid, harmless.
Though they can tattoo you if they do strikOr if ite.
The reflection on the tongue dosent say anything.
If it did it would be Here Mousey mousey.
Oh lens chat, sorry.
I have not had the opportunity to try the others listed, but I do have a 100 Canon macro. Great glass, must have in my humble opinion.
Enjoy!
The 100 2.8 L IS is as good as it gets. If the budget is short the 100 2.8 non L non IS is very good as is the 60 2.8 USM. Many "me too" macros change in physical length when focused which I find to be detrimental. While your at it pick up some extension tubes to super size it. Get a real good tripod. One that has a center column that flips from vertical to horizontal is a plus.

I think you will find that apart from the "L" and is there is nothing to chose between the Canons
Canon Compact Macro 50mm f2.5
No longer in production, but if you can find one at a reasonable price, you won't regret it. It comes in two parts, the actual lens and an extension tube. You need the tube to get 1:1 magnification. The lens alone will only give you 1:2
Canon Compact Macro 50mm f2.5 - 1/350 f8 iso200

Yes, great shot but I would have to break out my extra shorts!

For 90% of the people out there - they will SEE no IQ difference in any of these lenses - especially for what you want it for ! Therefore, cheaper is better ! Whatever you get, make sure it has IS/OS.
Stunningly beautiful images.

The snake shot says it all, look at my avatar, this is a crop blow up, not macro. The Canon 100mm L is the lens I use and if I couldn't afford one, I would save up until I could. I bought a Sigma lens recently to save money on the canon alternative, Its good but I wish I had bought the canon. regards
