Merry Xmas all and a great New Year.
My little genius grandaughter was in my office space in the basement.
I consider a creative personality and she at the time was about 6 or 7.
When picked up my Sony mirrorless and just started shooting. She shot
our colorful carpets books and othe decor stuff than me and everything
that came up that she found interesting. As an Art Director I judged her
photos very interesting. I was taking a shot for my daughter's book
and she grabbed the camera and started shooting. The camera rig
was about 5k in equipment. She picked upt the rig just let her shoot.
I suggest set your camera basics up. And select auto whatever it's
called and just shoot shots. I approach learning by indentifying what
I need to do and look that up with everything. Of course knowledge is golden.
But the knowledge required as some say takes a long time.
A famous photographer admitted he likes the Sony Auto settings
and had used them often when not in manual.
PS-It is a shame I had to darken the shot so you could see the
interest in shooting shots. Safety of pirated shots with kids is an issue.

We've all heard about the Covid mutation discovered in England. Many people are confusing cause and effect. England has been very diligent about monitoring the Covid virus, and scientists there noticed a mutation. Other countries haven't been keeping on top of it the was England has, so the general reaction is to shoot the messenger and ban travelers from England. In reality, this mutation probably exists in all countries. According to an article in the Washington Post, we probably have the mutation in our own country, and it could very well have originated here.

"Several top infectious-disease experts said Monday the variant may not have originated in the United Kingdom. Instead, it may have been identified there first because the United Kingdom has a robust monitoring system that has examined tens of thousands of genomic sequences of virus samples.
The United States has lagged in sequencing and does not have nearly the same level of virus surveillance." - Washington Post

I lived with Nikon's for years. I have said here before we had a big Audio Visual
company slide shows with 30 slide projectors sometimes more programmed to create
a wide screen show that clients loved. This is before big screens etc and huge
video projection. All our aquisition cameras for location were Nikons with a 35mm lens.
Always had a couple of Nikons. The D300 and D700 were great traveled with them
to use for background stills for the shows. I had many others.
Offered work shooting Trialthlons and Running festivals. I am a producer
and advertising guy 70% or my work was not for jobs.
I bought 2 D800's and was not happy. I had patience good camera
but too many annoying things about them. Not fair it was a new line
and in time that had it. Even Canon who admire (more for their video
cameras has had overheating times in the beginning. So did Sony.
I am in the process if lightening up and using Fuji cameras and lens.
Going to sell most of my Sony's like them a lot but things change.
Nikon does not need to invent anything they still are in all our minds.

There ya go! Family snap images Vs Art style images. I'll do both, but for myself, Artistic is a goal (even in my family snaps, it sneaks in there!). A bokeh'd (just made that up) out scene is part of that adventure. I've always felt what is in the background, for the most part, can make or break an image. I'm not fond of "busy" bokeh and in general, that has to do with the design of a particular lens...e.g ...Minolta 45mm F 2.0 Rokkor: Terrible OOF background. Nikkor 50mm F 1.4 AF: Awesome OOF background.

Just my opinion and style of imaging here, of course!

ebay will not help much. I must say that have sold many things successfully on ebay. PayPal is great backup use that account whenever I can. Years ago I learned my ebay lesson. I sold one of my Nikon D800's. The buyer was in Arizona. They committed. I received an email that they had payed from ebay. I shipped as ebay advised.
Got it an an email from ebay. It was a phone email. Camera went to Arizona. UPS dropped it at airport business.
It disappeared. Got the local police after it They saw the gentlemen who got it. They investigated him. They backed off. $3500 lost. UPS took no responsibility. ebay took no responsibility. It was a ring in different states.
Since have sold many items with great success. Bought a few things. Good luck.

A very serious photographer, or someone with excess money, wants "a leica monochrome camera" for "7K". Most people are very happy with what their smartphones can do. In fact, I am very happy with what my smartphone can do - but, as a photographer, I also want more than what a smartphone can provide. So it comes down to how much money one can afford to do with their "leisure" item or "hobby" and what features are important. As can be seen here in this thread, bokeh plays a very big importance for some - and has a lot less importance for others. This is why the three main formats exist. For the ones where bokeh is very important, full frame is the best choice - at a higher price than than APS-C or 4/3rds. For the ones like me, where bokeh plays less importance, we can get away with 4/3rds at a lower price. Of course, compared to smartphones, even 4/3rds provides more bokeh. But to get that bokeh, one has to spend more money than just a smartphone. And as long as the masses are more than satisfied with their smartphones, the less likely the masses are going to spend more money for cameras and the less likely the camera market is going to change upward anytime soon. And with the higher the cost, the less it will sell. This is why the main future will be APS-C, not full frame. And unless 4/3rds comes out with a new and better sensor, even 4/3rds, with its smaller size, less weight, and less cost, will be "playing" second or third "fiddle" to APS-C.

Most everyone will afford a smartphone because of its universal use and convenience. Not every photographer is going to pay more for just a separate camera / video anything.

Hey smart phones on the high-end are very expensive. I had a LEICA C-LUX 1 small camera my wife bought for me years ago for my birthday. in 2006 probably about 900 bucks. i shot only bw with it. And loved the camera.I found out recently about micro contrast which some lens and cameras create in b&w. I looked to see what the new Leica monochrome and saw the 7k. Crazy accept for vanity buyer. I just bought an Fujifilm XT3 (Which I post here) because it color management and built in film looks went with a great camera. It was $500 off on
black friday with 16 - 80 fuji lens at B&H. Yes I have switched back to aps-s. I will sell most of my good Sony cameras FF and lens. I am now convinced that quality cropped lens cameras can work very well for my quality needs. Smart phones are amazing. They have algorithims built in like our manual settings and take great
shots the camera is in control. And the sensor is small. Stay safe. Good luck.

Love the commentary on Bokeh. I like it it artistically. But shooting video many running/triathlon events
for the last 5 years I realized that the viewers want to see everything in the frame. The place in the course
the runners behind them etc. Everything possible in view is a valid approach. When I was in advertising
we designed a brochure with a gate fold that opened to 3 large pages. And the photographer did a great
job with models in the various computer setups all over the spread. Their were some places in the background
that were a little soft. Client gave us hell and went with the photo that way. Learned lesson.

I follow some photo/video online's like Phoblographer.
They have a piece on "Which One is Best? Comparing the Bokeh of 35mm
Full Frame Lenses." this week.
I have a couple of good primes. Sony Zeiss 55mmn 1.8 for my FF a7's.
It is a great prime lens. Len's like Leica 35mm f2 Summicron,Milvus, 1.4 etc etc
I get vintage and creative look of some of these lens. Nikon, Cannon
make great lens. Nikon 35mm fl.8 Z on sale $846. I have Sony gear now
and their high end G lens just priced me out. All good stuff.
But thousands of dollars. I now shoot video (which Covid has halted)
and along comes companies like Rokinon, Samyung made in South Korea.
and Miele etc. with cinelens for under $100 $200 to $450. They work and are pretty good.
Cine lens are huge amounts of money even Canons. What might driving
Our beloved pro, enthusiast, newby gear could be the pricing why the industry is fading.
I really wanted a leica monochrome camera 7K? Have a great Holiday.

I have an X-T2 and frankly, I never notice the lack of IBIS (as opposed to OIS), BUT the type of images I shoot, which usually involve moving subjects, doesn’t benefit from IBIS because my SS to freeze the action is adequate to prevent camera shake issues. Where I do find stabilization useful, is on longer teles, where OIS is typically more useful anyway.

Just a note if you shoot a lot of videos you want IBIS. But i have really become a hand held shooter
of the years. It does help with footage sometimes. Great that folks here have been very encouraging
and helpful. Stay safe. The lens I got with the XT-3 is stabilized.

Thank you all very much for the information on Fugi sites with good references.
Your encouragement and information is why I joined this forum a few years ago.

Stay safe and sane. Be careful. I now live in the house behind my daughter and my 2 grandchildren.
Protecting the children is very important. Happy Holidays.

That's irrelevant, but selling used gear for more than you paid for it is dreaming. The sale of the old equipment could bring in more money than the new gear cost, though. That's ideal.

I never got more then I paid for a camera. But generally my older great Sony camcorder got 60% on ebay.
My cameras and lens are in great shape. You always ask and tell very insightful questions and answers.

[quote=AndyT]I absolutely love the control layout, easy access without having to dive through menus, and image quaility of my Fuji X-T2. Best purchase I ever made. I still enjoy my Nikon D 7100, but always reach for the Fuji.[/quot

Andy interesting post. I had a lot of Nikons for years. D7000 etc etc. I shot a video for a school
with the 7000 and loved the camera. Got me started in the video business. First Video with mirrorless camera.

It was $500 off of the Fuji XT3 with 16 to lens. Picked the XT3 with the 16 80 lens. Didn't get the XT4 the new model. It is much more expensive. Only compromise is XT4 has stabilization. But the lens has it.
Sony sell probably 4-5 grand. Maybe another more of my cine lens. Watching used market ebay etc and companies that buy and sell that are good. Will see how the resale market is. Being patient works.
Fuji's sale prices B&H was a surprise. Might keep Sony a7s II amazing camera with one lens.
