#3 almost looks like the crescent moon and clouds that Dreamworks puts at the beginning of their films. The only thing missing is the boy with his fishing gear.

I thought there was something very familiar about this photo...hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the complement.

Very nice. Must try it when the clouds are visible.

I like the clouds in the shot too. Detracts from the fact that the moon isn't razor sharp. Darn VR was off...and I was shooting handheld. My new camera is too heavy for my tripod...I have to upgrade....

do you mind me asking what settings/lens you used? I've been attempting some shots, but don't get that detail..

thanks!

the first: 140mm Iso200, f4.8 1/50sec
all the others 300mm iso 200 f5.6 1/50sec
In pp I did crop quite a bit, played with the tone curve, added clarity, contrast, pulled the exposure down, slid the blacks up...yadda,yadda,yadda.

After a rather fretfull day...the moon in the early evening sky surrounded by the pink clouds was a welcomed site.

great vision. I love this photo. It feels like I'm looking thru a thin veil. Beautiful.
Thank you for sharing.

Seriously now, How does the rule of 3rd's really make a difference shooting photos of the moon? I shot it at F7.1 so no stars are in the background. Your eye is automatically drawn to the subject and not some corner of the photograph. And, it is cropped. So who cares?

How I took this shot: I used a semi-gloss backdrop (they are real cheap and can be found in any backyard at night).

I used a 2 light system. For my main I used the sun @ 5500 kelvin angled up from camera left at 45 degrees. For my fill light, I used a flashlight hand held As strange as it seems, I set my white balance at AWB since I saw no difference using a gray card. I couldn't even see the gray card.

I usually shoot all my portraits in B&W but this time I wanted to try it in color. I used a 300mm lens backed off to280mm.
Seriously now, How does the rule of 3rd's really m... (show quote)

Thank you!

It's all good....until you get to the processing and find out everything can be fixed....except what you did. I've had many a day like that.....do what I did...get a mantra...."progress today, perfection tomorrow"
thanks for the laugh.

I'd love to get out of NY...move to Cali...then I could blame the soft focus on earthquakes!

these are beautiful. The don't hit me with the typical HDR effect. I love them. Lighthouse is my personal favorite. Thanks for sharing all the info.

Iso 200 f14 1/60 300mm. No tripod...I had the camera and myself pressed against a tree. AF on...VR off

great shot! Steady tree you had lol

Much steadier than my tripod! But the dog never likes the walk when I have the camers.

thank you...I've been dreaming of this result for a long time. I know there's room to improve...got to try that 'live view' focus. But I'm pleased....and there's tomorrow.
