Nothing To Sea

This is another one from my Whitby project.

The interesting thing about this image was at the point of capture. I was stood at the edge of the sea gazing at the vast space in front of me (day dreaming).

I noticed the cloud and in my minds eye could visualise a square photograph. I set up the tripod, framed the shot and waited for the cloud to move into position.

Within minutes, 3 other people were stood next to me all with compact cameras tightly in their hand. Two of them looked at me and said,

"what are you doing, there is nothing there to photograph?"

I tried to explain what I had pre visualised but I don't think I suceeded as all three walked away shaking their head.

This is what I saw in my minds eye.

Camera: Nikon D3s
Lens Nikon 24-70 f/2.8

Processed in Adobe Photoshop with my Monobox Custom Panel.

Rather beautiful. Can visualise it big. Really big. No worries about the loonies who don't get it. Just let 'em walk. More for us that do. Rather reminiscent of Gurskys "Rhein II" which recently sold for $4.200.000! Keep snapping.

I think that's the way it is, no one can see the vision in your head but you. Great photo. Got any more?

I think your concept comes across very well. I really like the mood and the fact that you gave this image so much thought beforehand. This is one time the use of dark edges makes it work. I am usually not a fan of the technique but here without it this could not work. Also I like the soft clouds contrasted with the hard line of the horizon. I can see this enlarged and hanging in a gallery. Good work.

I LOVE it!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

It's like stopping in the woods abruptly to listen to ....

Nothing-ness.

Peace.

One can hear TONS in stillness.... and see SO much in this amazing photo, too :)

(I'm glad they didn't understand and walked away! )

sometimes the "rule of thirds" must be broken .... and it shows that it can be successful !

Great work.
