But with that Nikon, you are sacrificing image quality. I would walk around a whole pile of Nikons and that 200mm zoom, to buy a G12. Nikon may make a good DSLR, but their P&S technology is in the stone ages.

I have bee a nikon shooter all my life. You are right. "Stone Ages"might be an exaggeration but Nikon has a way's to go with their small cameras. I have a L120 that sucks. I would go with Canon. That will be my next point and shoot.

I too have the L120 and am less than happy with it and as such, purely as a back up have been looking at the SX40

Though she admittedly knew as much about photography as Michael Jackson did about hot older women

This made me choke on my Tea lol

As i have said in other posts, and in my signature I shoot sony because i Just happened to be given an A300 by my Grandad. I love the sony and as i have purchased extra lenses for the alpha system will be sticking with sony when i buy my new body ( am trying to decide between a65, a77 and a full frame a900 at the moment) Sony make a quality product, and its worth noting that their DSLR's are actually direct descendants of the old Konica Miniolta range as sony purchased KM when they folded/pulled out of the camera market ( cant remember which it was). Not taking anything away from nikon or canon but i have yet to see anything done with the nikanons that the sony's cant achieve and as stated in previous posts some of the nikons actually contain sony sensors

not sure about the canon or the nikon, but i shoot sony and have had a hands on with the A65, for video it surpasses the canon and nikons and according to dp review even out performs some canon camcorders, but you said you're not interested in video. the A65 has an OLED viewfinder which i really liked and in general i find the sony menu system easy to use and a doddle to shoot with. Thats just my 50 pence worth (about $1.20 for friends over the atlantic :) ) as someone else suggested all three cameras will achieve excellent results so its best to have a hands on with all three and see which fits your hand better.

Cheers

That's a blinding idea, now that you've mentioned it it seems such a simple solution I actually chuckled to myself for not thinking of this. Thanks for the answer, you should consider submitting this to a photography magazines tips page it's gotta be worth a few bucks

I own a DSLR a bridge camera and a nikon s8000 P&S the s8000 goes everywhere with me and so do the others and a tripod albeit in the boot (trunk - for our american cousins) of my car. If a quick snapshot is all that is needed i'll happily use the s8000 to grab it, however often opportunities arise while i'm out and i'm always glad i've got the A300, R1 and a couple of lenses in the car. I guess for me it comes down to i take pictures on my P&S and photographs on my A300/R1

You can buy the camera connection kit for the iPad, the are cheap copies of this about but please take my advice and buy the official one. Here in the uk it costs around 20 pounds but will allow you to connect your camera to the iPad via USB and will also let you copy from a sd card, not sure if you can copy back as no drag and drop windows come up the iPad just auto imports what you select in the photos app window (where camera roll displays)
Hope this helps

Hi guys a generous neighbour of mine recently gave me a Miranda 800 Tripod. The only problem with this is that the lever that you would hold to pan or tilt the tripod head is missing. My question is has anyone (preferably in the UK, but US and Canadian members input is equally valuable courtesy of Mail Order!!!) had any luck buying parts for Miranda Tripods and if so where from. A google search has proved fruitless.

Many Thanks in Advance

Wezza
