I can't wait to hear the responses to this one. Status issues will be thrown into the dirt. Chick magnets will dwell among those in the dirt. What is it that you guys gain from all of the stuff you drag around as opposed to my new Sony P&S with the advanced electronics? I certainly don't get it, but I'm sure that you are about to bitch at me about the old school stuff.

I liked the camera so well that I bought a second. Let the sentimental technology thoughts fly ... He went that away ===>

small depth of field, larger sensor, better images, the ability to print photos at much larger sizes, higher quality lenses, the ability to use polarizer and nd filters, and the fact that chicks dig the long lenses!!!!

The question reveals that you know little of the subject. If a P&S could produce the results of a D4 we'd all be carrying your p&s. I've heard it said that an artist can work with any tools, but whenever I see a successful artist they always have the best tools they can afford. (There's a reason for that)
I agree with Fstop, Post six of your photos and let us see how good you are.

Not seen any pictures that you have taken in your very few posts...might ask you the same question...kind of..why do you carry a "new Sony P&S with the advanced electronics"..Status symbol?

Image quality, mainly. Although I have quite a few lenses to choose from, I only take out those needed for the job in hand (I'm not talking professional work) - usually a wide zoom, a lightweight telephoto zoom and a large aperture normal lens. These all fit nicely in a small rucksack. That said, a P&S has its place and I usually keep one on me when I'm traveling light

Serious pictures require serious gear to enable full artistic expression without limits. Every camera and lens, whether p/s or dslr have a purpose with each within their limits. Off camera flash can provide lighting that on camera will never provide.

Can your p&s pick out the sun spot and another plant in transit? And I look good behind all of it.

Because I can?

I often ask myself the same question - do I really need all this stuff. Two bodies, several lenses and the answer was always the same - backup, backup and at least I am prepared.

At the end of a trip it seems I used one body maybe two lenses but hey I had it if I needed it.........

It also got to the point I budgeted extra time at airports to make the far away gates and then it hit me......

Get a case with a handle and wheels.........
