When I was living near New Orleans, I was shooting a motor cycle group, in City Park, I became under attack by a local. It started with a rant, and quickly escalated to the guy grabbing for my camera, and finally with shove. I was 68 at the time, and the guy was likely mid 40s, much stronger than I. He picked up my camera that was about to hit me with it. I had enough and drew my pistol while still on the ground. He tried to jerk my camera off me with a strong tug, but was unsuccessful. One of the people with me called the police. Both of the cops arrived in minutes on bicycles. He was arrested, and removed from City Park. I was happy my camera strap held up. The police checked my concealed carry permit, and ID, returned everything, and wished me a nice day.

I have read that at least one, possibly two, States do not have a Sales Tax. Perhaps a uhh member knows which State(s) is/are exempt.
My Wife and I moved from Louisiana two years ago, and have never looked back. She and I moved to New Hampshire, which is sales tax free, along with personal income tax. So, if you're looking for a tax haven NH is one of those few states without a sales, or income tax. The property tax is high, in our town of Bow, but there are services that you have to consider. NH does have great roads, prompt plowing, and clearing. Compared to La. a much better quality of life. As for politics, NH has 400 members in the House of Representatives (expensive to buy off that number) and about 26 Senators.

I don't see what you're trying to do. Your wife has a stable of Nikon lenses, but you fail to mention your Canon lens collection. If you go down the Nikon path your Canon lenses will be useible until the 5D Mark II dies, which could happen at any time. In your position, I'd go for the newest technology I could buy. The 6 D Mark II, or the 5D Mark III. Or, look for a used 5D Mark IV. Good luck.

I live just outside of Concord, New Hampshire. Our trees put on a pretty good show, but this year the trees went from green to drop in the North, but in our yard we're still seeing red in the maples. If you're thinking of coming right NOW, fly into Manchester and rent a car, and travel North on I-93. You'll see some color along the way North. You can travel North to Lincoln and catch the Kookamonga Highway. Although you may be a bit late for great color. Or you can exit I93 at I89 West, drive until you start seeing color along the road and get off the next exit and drive down some NH country roads. Better be quick, the leafs are about to fall in a few days. Today it is windy, and it looks like leaf snow today, I'll be raking later today. Good Luck.

This shot could be considered a advertising shot. I would have had the models wearing clothes which are contrasting to the Mc Donalds sign. The little boy does not need to be in the photo, his shirt causes him to be lost in the red area of the sign. The woman's hand should be on the same plane as the rest of her body. The hand being forward distorts the hand, and focus. To show "happy" you need to consider facial expressions, hand location, and body language. The flags, and high palm tree are completely unnecessary, as the large sky view. Keep the objective of the shot in mind, happy people, leaving or arriving at a "happy Place"

Hello, I like the #1 shot. The shot shows the prospective of the buildings, and also deeper colors. The green of the foliage is a bit dark for my tastes. Photo #2 is just a bit stark as a front on shot. Possibly you were shooting from the deck of the boat, and as the boat moved the lighting changed.

I've viewed your leif photo both in my browser, and in a viewer program I have. I feel this photo is of no value, as you have pointed out the focus point is way off to make it even a artistic shot in any way. First, you have stripped the EXIF data from the shot. This action tells me alot about your motive for submitting this shot to the member of UHH. What are you trying to accomplish with this shot? Are you trying to find a market for this type of photography? You need to think about the physics of photography when trying accomplish a marketable artistic shot. How do you think this would look blown up to a large print? The out of focus area would be accented, and the "in focus" part would be minimal. The Leif is a small subject in its self, and the grains of sand are not the subject of the photo. You need to work on getting the entire lief, and sand in focus.

Just a week ago, I had the very same problem. My laptops keyboard completely stopped working. I have a Lenovo Idea Pad, with touch screen. When I wanted to type the typewriter screen would come up. I tried every trick I knew, then I noticed the language (ENG) was vacant on my task bar. On further investigation I found my laptop was in tablet mode. I took off the tablet mode, and the keyboard came back to fully function.

Taxes, no weather placed in by Republicans or Democrats go into the General Fund of the taxing authority. What I don't agree with is how the Supreme Court ruled on the interstate collection of "Sales Tax." The ruling was carried by the Republican judges on the Court. None of which read the Constitution dealing with Interstate Commerce, which plainly states, "No State can tax goods from one State to another. The U.S. actually fought a war over this very thing, called The Whisky Rebellion.

Looks like it's time to find a State without sales tax to do business with.

Try New Hampshire, no sales tax, no State income tax, but regular property tax Also, great quality of life, and low unemployment.

Since my move to New Hampshire, which is a no sales tax State, if I travel to a State which has a sales tax, will I be refunded the tax when I go home to NH?

I agree with all of the above answers to your question, but one item has been left out of the mix. It is the research and development costs. For example, Canon researches the type of glass to use in a lens, the actual patent costs, coatings, mechanics, electronics, and interface. Then the lens is produced as a test lens. All the components are tested in the lab, and then should the lens pass, it will be produced for testing in the wild, or distributed to Canon lens testers that are their field testers. After that test, any or all suggestions are evaluated and considered changes are made to the test lens. Then another "in the wild test" will begin. When the finished lens is decided on it is pre-production tested again in its final form for expected life span. Then the lens is released for final production. Again the production of the lens is watched closely for problems in the first production run. The pricing of the lens figures in all this testing, and evaluation of the final product. Then, there is advertising costs, and any further cost of testing against other companies products. As the lens is produced there will be minor tweaks in production that will be considered in the cost. Don't leave out the cost of new equipment to produce the lens.

When I was looking for a 24-70mm lens I first checked Canon since I am a confirmed Canon shooter. I immediately looked into my need, and it was for hand held shots in poorly lighted areas. I looked very hard to using the Canon version 1, it did have f2.8, but no IS. So, I looked at competitors, and found Tamron had the lens I was looking for. The Tamron SP, f2.8 VC USM lens fit my bill for my current project at the time. There are other things you have to consider when using a lens which is a low light lens (f2.8) or a lens you my want to save money on, with a f4 aperture. One of these considerations is what you will accept as a photographer. You can up your ISO, and possibly introduce unwanted sensor noise to your images. Use a higher shutter speed and possibly a dim image. Tamron has since my purchase come out with a even better SP f2.8, VC USM, known as G2. I'm strongly considering buying the G2, to replace my current G1 lens. SP is Tamron's monicker for "special glass", which may have reached the level of Canon's "L" quality glass. If you think you are strapped for the cash to buy the lens you need, rent the Tamron G2, and see what it does for your level of photography, and equipment.

After shooting 1000s of bird and wildlife photos, I've gotten my best results using my Canon EF 100-400mm ver 2 lens. With this lens I may use a 1.4 Canon extender. I've also had plenty of great photos using my Tamron 150-600mm ver 1, but for shooting small song birds I've found this lens to be a bit heavy, and long. Both the Canon, and Tamron have image stabilization, which is alway on when shooting birds. Shooting wildlife such as deer, moose, and once in awhile a black bear, I'll take the Canon 100-400, or Canon Ef 300mm lens, both of those lenses are "L" quality and are extremely sharp lenses. I've used the Canon EF 600mm lens, but only a good tripod should be used with this lens. The 600mm I found to be heavy, unwieldy when shooting free hand in the field, but can be quite comfortable using a gimbal, on a sturdy tripod in a blind. Personally I like to shoot birds from a blind, using any of the lenses I mention in this post. I do shoot birds off feeders, or other lure, but I shoot the birds while perched not on the feeder, but on limbs of trees or on the natural ground cover. I'll shoot any and all shots with a sell ability eye. In your boots you should decide what type of shooting you want to do. You'll need a lens that will fit what market you may be shooting for. If you still have questions, you can rent these lenses and see how you can work with these lenses.

Every time I take outdoor photos I have my CPL handy. It does exactly what the previous posts have said, there is a big "but" in the type of CPL to have, and invest in. Look for a CPL with a brass mounting ring. Sometimes these filters gall to the threads on the lens and get stuck. If you find yourself having to remove the CPL quickly to get "that shot" and it is stuck, you may need a special filter wrench to remove it. Just don't damage those threads on the end of the lens.
