As many of you already knew, the Supreme Court Of The US made a decision that online purchases would include paying State Sales Tax. State Governments had complaints about not getting their share of taxes from online purchases. This Cyber Monday, it is estimated that there will be 7.8 billion dollars from online purchases. That's an increase of 18% from last year's Cyber Monday. It is suppose to be determined by your Postal Zip Code, as to how much you will pay. California is among the highest, and probably New York State. Yes, we must pay our taxes now. I got away for years without paying online taxes. So, I'm not complaining whatsoever. B&H Photo has some good deals on some photo equipment. Now, is the time to take advantage, if you can afford them. Happy shopping.

I ordered some specialty food items on-line. I got an e-mail to say the items had been shipped and that a 'final' invoice would be sent shortly. I thought my payment was 'final' enough. I wonder if they are leaving the door open to hit me for taxes?

B&H IS Brick and Mortar...you can go there and shop in person.

I have no sympathy for business' that don't keep up with the times and die a slow death...that's how capitalism works and the consumer benefits. If a local brick and mortar store wants to compete....they can do what B&H, Samy's, Adorama, or any number of other successful business' have done...react to the marketplace and reap the rewards.

It's a shame that some suffer due to those who break the law under the guise of being an astute consumer.

I assume the advent of the Sears Roebuck Catalog in the late 1890's probably put more then just a few Mom & Pops out of business -- Hopefully charging State Taxes will assist in leveling the playing field -- I for one really like picking-up & examining & testing out camera gear prior to purchase. Plus you don't need to worry about some cretin steeling it off your front porch

Kind of tough in some areas where there are no dedicated camera shops. Maybe longer drives would make impulse buying more difficult!

I shop online because it is quick and easy. I don't have to deal with parking, driving to the store or talking to uninformed salespeople. I could care less about paying or not paying sales tax.

I have read that at least one, possibly two, States do not have a Sales Tax. Perhaps a uhh member knows which State(s) is/are exempt.

New Hampshire is sales tax free. Hunt's Photo has a store in Salem NH which is just an hour up the road for me, but they have a couple of stores in the Boston area also. I did go up to Salem once to buy an item because they were the only branch that had it in stock, but I usually go to one of the local stores and pay the tax. Support your local Sheriff!!

So is your brick and mortar not going to charge you sales tax? If you buy something from them and it doesn't work the next day, do you expect them to replace it, or to tell you where to send it for warranty work? BnH will replace it. What's the reason for switching?

No sales tax here in Oregon.
Well not quite true for everything. There is a sales tax on cannabis, but that is somewhat negated by the freedom for individuals to grow a couple of plants tax free.
