I'd love some CC on this image. I'm taking an advanced college course on color and light and I shot this photograph to fulfill an assignment called the Psychology of Color. Hopefully the image speaks for itself, but the idea was to capture the red and yellow of the McDonald's logo and associate it with happy folk. What do you all think?

Very nice. Like the idea.
Nice, one, but it looks like she's ready to punch that kid in the face.
The shadow across the mom is distracting, I wonder if a reflector would have helped?
A lot of space is given to the flag and tree, try cropping them out to emphasize the models. Use a better angle on the mom, a better expression on the boy in the middle.
I looked at the photo before I read the post and the first thing I noticed was the color integration so I guess you got that right!! How about swapping the colors....Mom and the smaller boy in yellow and middle boy in red, opposite of the sign? Also, boy in yellow’s eyes are closed.
Just my 2 cents😊
This shot could be considered a advertising shot. I would have had the models wearing clothes which are contrasting to the Mc Donalds sign. The little boy does not need to be in the photo, his shirt causes him to be lost in the red area of the sign. The woman's hand should be on the same plane as the rest of her body. The hand being forward distorts the hand, and focus. To show "happy" you need to consider facial expressions, hand location, and body language. The flags, and high palm tree are completely unnecessary, as the large sky view. Keep the objective of the shot in mind, happy people, leaving or arriving at a "happy Place"

I've completely redone the composition based on the comments, but I have no opportunity to reshoot it, so the attached is as good as it's going to get I'm afraid. Thanks for your critique.
All the changes you made help. Now I would remove the trees at the left, middle and right and the small yellow triangle in the middle.

Yellow and Red are the two most powerful colors used in outdoor advertising which is why you will see it so often. I prefer the fist image myself for the negative space of the sky draws your eye to the main subjects. I also agree with you that the image speaks of positive emotions and family values. The clothing also compliments the primary color scheme of the composition.
