The foliage has all but changed here in California/Nevada area, I am considering going to the East Coast, New England and or south/ mid Atlantic area. For the changing of their foliage leaf colors etc. Does anyone who ACTULLY LIVES in Any of these areas know if this is a good time to go, I can go anytime in the next two weeks or so. Or any other suggestions ideas or places to go for the viewing of such things.

There are web sites that track fall foliage across the country...

If you come in the next two weeks, the smokies are going to be perfect! We are starting a little late this year due to it being warmer than usual so should be just starting this week and in full color within two weeks.

Next year will be a good time to visit - I hope. This year has been kind of a washout - literally. Too much rain and not enough color. We have trees with no leaves, brown leaves, and green leaves.

Same here, Jerry. I'm about 25 miles north of Binghamton NY. The Adirondacks were spectacular about a week ago, but are now well past peak. I need to check out the Finger Lakes region if weather will allow before it's too late.

As with last year, there has been a lot of rain, which makes most of the leaves turn brown. Some areas have passed their peak, others are still all green here in western NY.

In northern Pa and southern NY the fall color is not happening this year. Unfortunately all the excessive rain this year has caused a fungus that makes the leaves turn brown and fall off. We have many sugar maples on our property which are normally beautiful, this year no color and it is same way all across the northern tier of Pa. I would recommend you check on specific areas before traveling there. Good luck

Best answer as noted above. Check local web sites.
Here around me in PA just north it is changing now but at my house we have not really reached the full color,my trees are just now getting a bit of color and just south of me towards Harrisburg it hasn't really started yet and that is in a short distance spread.
Yesterday morning it got close to freezing and tomorrow will likely be freezing thus speeding up the color change.

It wasn't as pretty & colorful as past years...too dry. Yet still nice. Try next year

Was at Lake Cayuga (Finger Lake Near Ithaca) last week. There was very little color; mostly brown and green leaves. On the other hand Taughannock Falls (215 ft falls) was the fullest I have ever seen it. This past week I was in Mendon Ponds south of Rochester which usually has excellent color this time of year and again brown and green leaves.

Here is a photo at Wilkes-Barre of the hills. Only some early maple trees are turning. The rest of the hills are still green. As I said earlier they are showing hints of starting but full color isn't here yet. Perhaps another week or so.

I live in Vermont and the foliage is past peak here. I would recommend that if you are considering coming to the Northeast, generally, the best times are the first two weeks in October. Some years the foliage is a week or so earlier or later; it really depends on a variety of factors: temperature, rain, wind, etc. The northeast states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine have diverse topographies, and the maturity of the foliage will vary depending on the mountains, valleys, waterfront, etc.

Try newengland.com and go to the foliage section for different options. A Ct. public broadcasting station for the past 3 nights focused on New Hampshire showing the White Mountains. The colors looked great (on TV) but their season has to be finished soon. Maps are showing lower Mass and Ct about to hit peak. My part of Ct has only had 2 frost nights, with 29 degrees the lowest. A cold wave, low 30's and upper 20's at night is forecast for next week. If a trip is easy enough for you then do it. Slowly driving the roads up here is a pleasure and relaxing. The north eastern corner of Ct. is always written up as a place to go, see and drive through (scenic drives). Kent Ct. is also touted plus it is a very nice town to walk through, browse shops and has numerous restaurants. Color is around, good not spectacular but better than last year. Good luck.
