Trying to understand the specifics and not Ford vs. Chevy type thing. I need to now which is better in clearer sharper pictures. I am looking at the Nikon D5300 and not sure what the Canon equivalent is.
Need more specifics. "...clearer sharper pictures" under what set of circumstance?
What are you going to be shooting? Requirements for a camera used in a studio are different than those for shooting B-I-F, sports, landscapes, low light, etc...
The question should not be centered around image quality alone, but image quality for a type and style of shooting.
Coming in late
If the saying was Shoot, Shoot, Shoot..., Shoot, Shoot, Shoot,... I would say no. But it is Shoot, Shoot, Shoot...,Practice, Practice Practice,...
Practice and simply repeating the same thing over and over are VERY different things. One is mechanical, the other engages the mind.

That's their overall score. The image quality score is like I posted.
OK. If all you do is studio work with still life, then the image score is all you need.
But if you do sports, wildlife, landscapes, events, children, friends, ... then the other things become important.
Well. It looks like the OP, who was on after Helen gave her email address twice, the second time was just after Midnight, has had an opportunity to reach out for help. Helen is obviously monitoring the thread. I think it is up to the OP now.
I am a little confused as to how the OP can place an order and not have an order number. I do that sort of thing on line exactly to make sure I have a paper trail. Did the OP order by phone?

I finally found the answer to a question posed in another thread titled
"When do you realize you have too many cameras???"http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-245216-1.html

This is a great idea. I was about to say that each of us needs to determine how much wide we want to go. In my particular case my 12-24 f4 Nikkor is all I need.
I do not believe it is a good idea to use your wide angle at f22 where surely diffraction will degrade the image to some extent. Crop bodies have a large depth of field in comparison to full frame.
If in need of a wide angle try to establish first how wide do you usually go with your photography, it will make your selection easier.

DOF calculations are independant of sensor size. Given the same apeture, focal length and distance from subject the DOF is the same on a crop, FF or MF.

Oh no!! Soft focus issues again just like the original 7D?!? ;)
 No. Just like most long threads here on the Hog!
Echo the Canon 10-18!!! It is for APS-C sensors and @ $299.00 can't beat that value!
On the Canon side, unless you NEED a touch screen and in camera HDR skip the t5i and get the less expensive t3i. Save your money for lenses and future GAS! (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)
