Just seen the run down on the new Canon7D2, It looks quite a beast,-- I was thinking of get one as a second body, but at £1600 I think I would rather get the Mk 1 at half the price??

Not really any different from past Canon releases. When the 5D Mk3 was released at $3499 the 5D Mk2 was then selling at $1799. The high price of progress it seems.

The long awaited replacement for the D 300 has arrived. It is called a Canon 7d mk II. So bummed. Nikon instead offers a fps disabled D750

Did you also notice that the new 7DMKII uses a different battery! I have two bodies, a 5DMKII and the 7D and they both use the same battery, the LP-E6. Now if I upgrade I will need to carry two different batteries. The new battery is an LP-E6N and is made only for the new 7DMKII and lists for @ $75.00 ea.

I find it interesting that with all they gave it, they only gave a slight increase to MP.

Specs seem pretty impressive. If Canon had something this impressive in that price range when I upgraded, I'd have been tempted to switch from Nikon to Canon.

I've held several Canon Dslr's and have shot with a couple. Canons always feel more comfortable in my hands, but the couple I shot with baffled me.

You are right on! Been waiting a long time. Seems like Canon rewards loyalty while Nikon does not.

From a review:

The 7D Mark II uses a new battery pack -- the LP-E6N -- however, before you groan loudly after spending truckloads of cash on multiple LP-E6 batteries for earlier Canon DSLRs, we should mention that the 7D Mark II is fully compatible with older LP-E6 batteries: the new "N" variants are the same shape, but have a higher capacity. They also happen to be compatible with the older LP-E6 chargers.

When the 7D-I was released, it was $1700, so the 7D Mark II is only $100 more initially. The 7D-I is half price because it is 5 year old technology. If you don't think Canon has added anything of value to you, certainly get the 7D-I.

Thanks for the info. I will want to find the amp rating on the new battery and compare it to the same rating on the old battery. Could tell me where you got the info on the battery as I have not been able to find it. Thanks... Ron

It is claimed to have a higher MaH rating, but Canon has yet to publish that rating, nor full compatibilities yet.

Looks like Canon might have a winner and the price will make it a hot seller.

I've been reading about it here and there--it's already being called the D7100 killer(more or less).

One person went so far as to say that the replacement for the D300 is finally here and it's from Canon.

The 7D has long been the favorite crop sensor sports camera due to its high frame rate thanks to its dual processors. The 7D2 is a good upgrade to the original, albeit later to be introduced than necessary. Canon intentionally delayed its release so as not to take away from sales of its 70D model since they were to share a sensor. My hope is that it has greatly improved low noise capabilities as the original 7D was terrible for noise after 800 ISO.

Thanks, I looked it up on B&H and what they said was that the new battery is designed ONLY for the 7DMKII. A while back people were having problems with off-brand batteries due to the higher MaH rating. The 1DX FPS drops off when the charge drops below I think 70% and the new 7DMKII will more than likely work with the LP-E6 but how well and how long.
