Is Gaff Tape interchangeable with duct tape? I am thinking of joining foam core board to make ‘ V-Flats’

Gaff tape is designed to be removed without leaving a mark. I would use "west Virginia chrome" ie. duct tape for your project.

Hi, I have a question about a battery that I got on Amazon for my Canon. I simply searched under the exact battery needed and went for the best deal. It turns out that the source of the battery was China, and when I tried to use it, a message popped up on my screen asking if this was a Canon sourced product. I tapped “no,” and then it said that I was not guaranteed that it is safe. So my question is, should I send it back for a refund and purchase a more expensive Canon sourced battery, or should I not worry about it because it is just Canon corporation wanting me to buy from them?

Your camera is expensive, use the proper battery for it. Return that junk and man up and buy what you should have the first time.

Old friend stated that she had many old film cameras. Asked if they had any value.

So, I'm here to ask

Any value in old film cameras? If yes, where is market?

Thanks for any help!!

Hope Santa brought you ----

Go to Ebay, look up the film camera, go down the left margin to one that says "sold items" click on that and then you will see what that film camera is actually selling for, that will give you the current market value of that camera.

A few months ago, I bought a used AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm 1:4 G lens. My intention was to have it as a "sometimes" alternative to my 17-55mm f2.8 DX Nikkor zoom for my D500. (I also have come to enjoy using it on my D850.)

The issue is that the HB-53 hood that is designed and intended for that lens really provides only minimal protection against flare, since it has to be shallow enough to accommodate a 24mm field of view without vignetting. Of course, when I use that lens on a DX body, the hood only has be shallow enough to accommodate the field of view of a 35mm lens, meaning that a deeper hood could work just fine.

So...now the question is whether any of the members here know of a deeper Nikkor bayonet lens hood that will mount properly on that lens while providing protection down to a 35mm full frame field of view.

Thanks in advance.

I was out shooting my new refurbished Nikkor 200-500 mm lens today. This guy shows up. I had my Nikon Z6 in DX mode so this is at 750 mm. I'm thinking I don't need a 1.4 teleconverter now.

No, never use any converter on that zoom lens. It just does not deliver what it should.

Thanks so much for confirming a suspicion. Based on your experience, about how long did the repair take including shipping?

Nikon was very good at turn around. I would say total time each time was less than 2 weeks. But to be honest, I do not remember exactly the time line. I sent it to New York. They did supply a pre-paid mailing labels upon request.
And yes, the Err message was madding but, Nikon did fix it and that lens is still going strong. If I recall they replaced quite a bite of it the last time I sent it in. My problem was intermittent so that is what made it so hard for them to fix, it would not do it all the time.

Thanks for the comment. For an extended walk, i agree that a single camera/lens combo is the way to go. This was my only option before I complicated my life with this second body.

I have found over the years that if I can get away with a FF body I get more detail. It depends a lot on how far away the birds are. Again, I agree that most of the time I find my D500 with 200-500 handles most of my shots.
But the detail of the D850 body with the 500 5.6 lens is something else. Below is an example, and it was cropped extensively.

Yokes, you carry all this? I hadn’t considered walking with two rigs, but I’ll keep that in mind once I settle out my favorite combinations. Thanks for your suggestions.

The spider system really makes if quite easy to carry the second camera on your hip. I do not do this often but most of the time I am on board walks and do not travel far. I am blessed to be in an area of Florida that has many preserves to choose from without having to walk far.
If I do want to go on a long walk, I only carry one lens, usually a zoom for flexibility.

I can only get the lens cap on the camera if I use the adapter ring that comes with the TCON lens. Does it matter if I use the red adapter ring with the regular tough lens?

The last 2 years, I have been on the photo press corp for the Reno Air Races the last 2 years. I bring multiple cameras and lens. but both times using the 200-500 Nikkor lens on my D810, using burst shooting a lot, freezes up my camera, generating an ERR issue, to the point where I cannot turn it off, or do anything. I have to remove the secondary battery pack, and remove the primary battery, , then reinstall all. Works fine for about 3-4 burst shots, then freezes up again. the 2 memory cards are Sandisk Extreme Pro with a speed rating of 170mb. I rented the lens both times and have no idea if it was the same lens or not. Sent my D810 in for servicing to Nikon service Center, and they could not find anything wrong with the camera. Their technician said this should never happen. This does not happen with I use my 85-200mm Nikkor lens with a Teleconverter. Has anyone else experiencing this issue? I usually shoot from inside the racing pylons, where you see aircraft coming at you between 300-500mph at traveling sometime over 875 feet per second.

Your issue is not uncommon with that lens. It is not the body, it is the lens. I sent my 200-500 into Nikon three times until they fixed it. Call Nikon at 1-800-645-6687. Be nice, tell them that you have missed several once in a life time events because of this issue. Ask them nice for a pre-paid label since you have heard from many folks that this is an issue with this lens.
It is nice to have a 5 year warranty on most all Nikon lenses.

Just got the newly released peak design travel pod and a very impressed with it's size and functionality. I think it to be one to be considered when looking for a travel tripod. I really like the uniquely designed ball head.

Good tripod but only extends to 60 inches max. Not good enough for my extra tall frame.

After becoming very comfortable with my D500, I recently decided to dip my toe into the FF world by picking up a pre-owned D810. For birding, i have the Nikon 200-500, the Nikon 300 PF (and 1.4 TC), and the Tamron 100-400, all of which I love. I’m wondering if and how to use two cameras for birding? If we are in a single location (not hiking), my instinct would be to mount the heavier combo (D810 and the 200-500) on my tripod and use the D500/300 PF for handholding for BIF opportunities. Or, is trying to use both more trouble than it’s worth? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I sometimes carry two systems. System 1, Nikon D500 with a 200-500 5.6 lens. This combo is very comprehensive in giving me an effective angle of view of 300-750 mm.
If I carry a second system it is the D850 with the Nikon 500 5.6 lens attached.
If I carry both I have a spider system that puts the D850/500 5.6 on my hip while I carry the D500/200-500 5.6 in my hands.

I also have two other systems that work a little differently. Sony a9 with 200-600 attached. I also just got the Sony a6600 that will give me and effective angle of view of 300-900 mm. OUCH!!!!!
But right now I do not have a second Sony lens to put two systems in play at the same time.
I do not like changing lenses in the field so I will for now probably just carry the Sony a6600 with the 200-600 lens attached. I will be setting up the a6600 menu to mirror my special settings on the a9 for better tracking of birds in flight.

I was going to purchase a high end drone to fly over and video the amazingly beautiful mountains and desert surrounding Las Vegas. However, after studying the issue, I have found that most areas surrounding and inside Las Vegas have banned flying drones. Anyone know anything about flying over BLM lands out in this part of the world ??????

I've a bunch of past dated film that has been either refrigerated then frozen, or originally frozen for a number of years. 35mm film includes Sensei at least 12 - 15years old, Velvia 50 about 10 years, Provia 100 about 7 to 9 years and some B&W 120 about 6 to 10 years. My 35mm B&W always frozen is dated 2018 so I think it should be ok. I appreciate your thoughts.

Rule of thumb, a slow film (ISO 50) should keep in the freezer for 10 to 20 years, a fast film (ISO 3200) will only keep for a few months, freezer or not. If you assume that film is as sensitive to cosmic rays as it is to light, the ISO speed will give you an idea of how long you can keep film.
