My son is interested in getting digital camera binoculars for travel. The only comments I have found on this site are several years old. I would be interested if anyone has first hand knowledge of the the current offerings, good or bad. Thanks in advance. Bill
Look at the reviews. Many are one star reviews (the worst rating). Better off with a super zoom bridge camera.
A friend bought one, he gave it to his 5 year old granddaughter.
I had had a couple of them in my hands. No good. They are not up to part in quality, image.
If you want to spend the $200 for the Barska, it might be decent. Barska makes a line of low cost spotting and rifle scopes. However, their scopes don't compare to Leupold, Nikon, etc.
I bought a pair of Barska camera binoculars earlier this year. They image and build quality were so bad, the day after they arrived I boxed them up and sent them back.

Why not just get one of the telephoto attachments for his cellphone? The end result is just about the same.
Cameras, binoculars and telescopes can all be used with each other depending on the need and gear set up.
However, none of them can replace the other.
If you want a device which is a binocular AND can take images ... it's going to be a disappointment.
I would suggest a compromise.
Have your son look at image stabilized binoculars for travel.
Canon has some very good models ( I own one) ... they work really well.
But if your son wants to take pics ... he will still need a decent camera/cellphone.

I recently had a message exchange with a person who was using a celll phone shooting through one eyepiece of her binoculars. She was very frustrated by the cumbersome processs but it did produce some (a few) usable images (even some BIF photos.) She eventually bought a panasonic with a long zoom and has been delighted. I message this only because she was using binoculars to take pictures, which goes along with the subject of this thread.

Thanks for all the replies. After reviewing your comments and talking to a camera store owner, he has decided to go in a different direction. Thanks again, Bill
