No doubt the cell phone camera technology is eating away at the DSLR and Mirrorless Market. However, I do think this report is a little deceptive. Everyone pretty much has a cell phone which just happens to have a camera built in. The sheer number of cell phones sold around the world vs. real camera's projects a false comparison. Although newer cell phones do provide some nice images, it will be a long time before they can duplicate the advantages of having a real camera. A person who is serious about photography will always buy a real camera in addition to a cell phone.

I completely agree. I would never take just a cell phone to something like the Grand Canyon. Cell phones are for taking pictures of the Grandkids. Cameras are for places like the Grand Canyon.

The picture with the Eagle is excellent to me. He is sitting there examining his vast domain. Another right there, right time capture.

Weird, creepy, disgusting. Nice music but, otherwise, not for me.

Get the refund and chalk it up to lessons learned. There are a whole bunch of lens on the market. At least you will recoup funds.

Thanks.

One other point. Drive out to Badwater Basin well after Sunset. The stars and Milky Way are awesome. It was like nothing I have seen before. Made me feel very, very small. The universe is wonderful. Just amazing.

I have a dslr nikon d7000 and love it however with a 18-300 lens I found it a bit much to drag about the forest and trails so I took a risk and bought my first bridge camera and find it really quite good. Now lets be clear, I am not doing a promo for Lumix and I do find a few things I would like different but all in all its quite useful at least for me. Interested in other opinions on this or for that matter any other bridge type camera users. Im new to this site and hope to learn from others.

Thanks for all suggestions. Vaughn - staying at Stovepipe Wells. Just added an extra day so I won't have to rush. Fingers crossed for decent weather!

Good on the extra day. This is a shot of Sunrise at the Sand Dunes.

Badwater Basin, Devil's Golf Course, Artists Drive/Palette, Borax Works, Golden Canyon (great at Sunset), Salt Creek, Devil's Cornfield, Dantes View, Sand Dunes (great at Sunrise).

Will you be staying in one of the park lodges? If so you will be in close proximity to the areas listed above. Also, it will take several days to properly take in the grandeur of the park. It is beautiful.

Given my mistrustful nature, I find it just possible that the only real difference is the way it's labeled for marketing

This is from the SonyRumors site:

Art lenses
Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our Art line delivers high-level artistic expression.

→ Large-aperture prime lenses, wide-angle lenses, ultra-wide-angle lenses, macro lenses, fisheye lenses and more

Lenses designed with no weight and size savings in mind. With the 24-105mm f/4 Art being a notable exception (more on this below), Art lenses offer a large aperture and/or are specialized. Additionally to Sigma’s examples, we can assume that tilt-shift lenses would go into this category.

Contemporary lenses
Featuring the very latest technology, and combining optical performance with compactness, our high-performance Contemporary line covers a wide range of needs.

→ Standard zoom lenses, telephoto zoom lenses, high-magnification zoom lenses and more

Since compactness is a goal, using smaller and less glass elements − and, subsequently, compromising on optical performance to some extent − is necessary. The 150-600mm f/5-6.3 variants, one Contemporary and the other Sports, show what it’s like to design two lenses with the same focal length range and aperture but with different quality goals.

Mechanically, Contemporary lenses should be just as good as the others (barring weather resistance in some cases). TSC material and metal parts are used, and as every Global Vision lens, they are individually tested.

Artistic versus technical? Still not sure what their sales pitch is. Each are very, very nice lens. Marketing???
