“I think it was attracted to my T-shirt, sort of a mauve color. I'll have to wear it more often.”
Maybe it was sensing your sweet personality?

I love the sky. Your picture inspires me to keep trying. But I get frustrated when I take photos of the sky, or places like a forest where a lot of the beauty doesn’t translate to photography because so much of what awes me is the size, plus there is a feeling of no focal point- just a vast expanse that is encompassing.

The sign is there in both. It just doesn’t draw the eye in the first one. I like the first one best for composition. But you might try editing to make the sign more noticeable. Enlarge it, or lighten it so the eye notices it more.

A really good shot!
If your original allows, I would crop it wider with the person to the right with more of the wave leading the eye to him. I suggest lowering the amount of sharpening to leasen the white blowout/sparkle on water drops.
Unless the surfer is someone important to you. Then the close crop draws the eye to his face. The over-sharp problem still distracts

[quote (running Win 7)

Before you download any new program check to see if it will run on windows 7. Since windows doesn’t support 7 any more, you really should consider up grading to win 10, while it may require a newer computer there are fairly new (but used) machines available if cost is a factor.
GIMP is a good free photo processing software. While it has some learning curve the basics are easy.

I have had better results with my I-phone than with a regular camera. I have a small n-scale layout. The phone can get into small areas and down closer to “ground level” than a bulkier camera, especially if I shoot with it upside-down. I think the depth of field is better, but my layout is small enough that I have less problem anyway.

It's amazing what goes on in the backyard at night. We live next to a wildlife management area and see all kinds of animals. Guy across the street caught a bear resting in his backyard with his cameras. Too close for me.

I’ve never seen a bear that had even one camera;)

I find that GIMP does a good job of everything I need. It is free. You do need a raw converter, but there are several available free.

The app “Seek” can help you identify species for plants, animals and fungi. Just point your cellphone camera or import a photo to get identifications

What business is it of ours to judge how others choose do do with their photography? Their pictures have nothing to do with us. It is similar to judging what food tastes “best”.

Wonderful shot. I’m jealous. I have some Tanagers living on my property in WV and we’ve been playing hide and seek for 3 years. I get glimpses, and even some good views (when I don’t have my camera handy) but no decent photos yet. I’m on a steep hill, so the tree tops he favors are at near eye level. But he flys away before I can get his picture. 😢 thanks for inspiring me to keep trying.

A great new free app has been released by national geographic and a university that identifies species you photograph. It is call “seek”. Just point your phone camera at a plant and it ids it for you. I think it does animals too, but I haven’t tried that. It works from photos you have taken also
