There is a NATO plane in a holding pattern by Ukraine's western border. Looking further, I see that it's a radar plane, probably a Nimrod. It's doing figure-eights.

Yep. Keeping an eye on those Migs.

I actually like Windows 11, especially the multiple desktops. They are not independent. It would be nice I could record something on one desktop while using another, but maybe I'm asking for too much. Prior to changing to Win 11 I backed up my O/S. I could go back to Win 10 by just changing my boot disk. Used it for about a month and found I liked it. At first the snipping tool was not working, but seems that after one of those updates it started working.

It is a new O/S, so we will see many updates. Perhaps we will see again the ability to move the taskbar around. For those who cannot wait there is a Registry hack though.

Basketball for grade/middle/high school is getting started. I have grandkids at all levels and truly enjoy shooting their games. It’s a great way for me to stay connected with them. Some of the games are in old very poorly lit gyms. I shoot with the Nikon D500 and have used the following lenses: TAMRON 18-400: Overall, I like this lens, but I really don’t like what I get in low light situations. Tamron 70-200: Works well in low light, but very difficult to get close up shots. Tamron 24-70: also good in low light, but I’m limited with the longer shots that then require a lot of cropping. I’d be very interested in hearing some lens suggestions for shooting indoors. Thanks in advance. Budget? $1,000-ish.

I shot my kid's basketball games for a while. Also have a D500. I got best results with a 85mm F1.8 opened at F2 and 1/800. ISO was over 3200. I had to sit or stand close to one of the baskets. Sometimes I stood/sat right behind it. However, these are the more interesting shots and where most of the action happens. Rebounds are the best. I used fast burst mode to get the most of the action. I took my 80-200 2.8 to shoot far away, but found I didn't need it. I got my 85mm used from ebay between $200 - $300. Great lens. If you ask nicely to the officials they might let you get a decent spot. Show them the camera so they can see you have no flash. Good luck.

Has anyone installed Windows 11? Are there a lot of bugs?

I am planning to install it this weekend. I'll clone my boot drive first and if I don't like it all I have to do is to exchange boot drives.

Using photography to help those in need would be my calling in life. This guy creates superhero images from kids who need a bit of encouragement and to see themselves on a new light.

I'm not too big on jazz, but I probably listened to that first tune about six times. Just awesome. Flows like water. Thanks for sharing!

I have been to Iceland 3 times. There is a Penis Museum, the only one in the world is in Reykjavík, Iceland.

I am doing a photo tour there next September. It will be a combo, easy horseback riding/photography.
PM me if interested.

The flowers are artificial and the birds are fooled by them usually just once...so I know when new birds arrive. Still they end up with a treat from the nectar feeders mounted below and often come back again.

A win win situation us both.

What a beautiful set. I like all three.

Could you speak about technicals? What lens did you use? Shutter speed? Did you use HSS flash? Remote trigger?

I don't think Van Gogh, Picasso and Renoir had better brushes.

Actually, they might have. These not only last longer, but they might be able to do things cheaper brushes don't. If you ever have the opportunity to see Da Vinci's Ginevra de Benci painting in Washington DC, you will notice he painted almost every strand of hair. Again, the right equipment for the task.

After using this camera on a tripod and gimbal several times a week in a clean environment (not the beach or dirt), today the buttons on the left as well as play, erase, info and information won't work at all. I can take a photo, can't delete or review, and can't use menu to reformat.
I search the internet and all I found was "maybe stuck buttons". I went over each button carefully, none look stuck to me.
I would appreciate any ideas or information about what to try before sending it off to Nikon.

Did you use any flash triggers? My D500 locks up when using the Yongnuo YN622N-TX in HSS mode. Everything locks up. I mean, the camera becomes a paperweight. Even when taking the trigger off the camera. After a bit of a scare I resolved the issue by putting the trigger back, setting it to another mode and pressing the shutter.

New to me, that is. It's Smart Photography, which bills itself as "India's Leading Imaging Magazine." The issue I read was 100 pages (by contrast, the latest edition of Outdoor Photographer was 64 pages). Well-written articles in flawless English. I read the magazine on-line through my local library. If your library uses Overdrive, you probably have access as well.

I have been subscribed to Smart Photography for a couple of years and I like it. I subscribed through zinio.com and read it on my ipad.
They have another called Photography Week, (I think they have a special of 2 yrs for $27) but stopped it because can't read one before the next issue comes in, but very good too.

When my family was at Disney World we stopped to eat lunch by the river. Burgers and french fries as I recall. This guy was on the tables eating fries and anything he could steal. As he walked past me I reached out to pet him, and he confused one of my fingers for a french fry and took a bite, youch. Seemed funny at the time and got me laughing for a while.
Anyone else get bit by the wildlife in your area?

A pelican in San Diego. Got too close -not by choice- and he attacked, opening his mouth so wide that it put his upper beak over my forehead and his lower under my chin. I saw his tongue real close. All in a fraction of a second.
