I started using Irfanview about twelve years ago when I was the newsletter editor for EAA Chapter 88 in Wichita, KS. It's free, has a lot of capability, and works great.

Were you using a lens with an aperture ring? I had the ERR message come up on my D300 because I didn't have the aperture ring set to its upper limit. The particular lens was an old 35-105 which is autofocus until you get to infinity and then goes into manual mode to focus in macro. I bumped the aperture ring just slightly and got the ERR message. Getting back to f22 got rid of the ERR message.

Yep, it was bracketing! Don't know how I got into it but with more looking in the manual I found that the BKT icon was on and the EC symbol was flashing. All I had to do was push the Fn button and rotate the command dial until the number of bracketing shots was set to "0".
Thanks everyone,

Rick

Folks, I've read through the manual and the Magic Lantern Guide until I am blue in the face. I've done a two button reset to try and kill whatever compensation I've accidentally set. I've set the EV step to 0.
Below are four shots that were taken just holding the shutter release button and blasting off four shots.
Anyone got any idea why I'm getting this exposure variation?
Thanks

Rick

I haven't started shooting people, YET!, but like I told the fellow who wanted to stand right next to me in the check out lane, "you can either go for social distancing or Smith and Wesson distancing, your choice." He was grumpy about it but he did back off.

I'm not a professional photographer, barely a photographer if you look at some of the images, but I think I'd go with a second body for convenience, and in your line of photography, safety. You don't need to be fooling around changing lenses while big trucks, lots of personnel, and a fire are all going full tilt.
The other issue is $$$$. KEH sold me a Nikon D300 in EX condition for $138. Far more camera than I need but what a buy!!!
You might find a lens for that price, used, but what if the lens fails? I bought a cheap, old Sigma 28-300 lens recently. I mounted it, took some shots at both ends or the zoom range and put it back in the camera bag. The next time I tried to use it, it had become a 28mm prime. Zoom collar is stuck tight.
Just a thought,

I don't think Hubble saw anything on my birthday. The first satellite, Sputnik 1, was launched on my sixth birthday and all it did was beep.
OK, so I couldn't resist....

At the very bottom of the Nikon USA download page for firmware updates is a link that gives step by step instructions. That saved me as the first set was fairly oblique!
Good luck

PGHPhoto, "From the Buzzfeed article".....

From that Buzzfeed article;

In comparison, the CDC’s actual most up-to-date count of C****-** deaths is on a separate site and shows more than 64,000 people have died in the US.

As the CDC states, that tally is updated daily based on data received from state health bodies: "Case notifications were received by CDC from U.S. public health jurisdictions and the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS)."

Neither that CDC figure, nor the National Vital Statistics System page, have been revised down.

In my particular case I apparently set the histograms on in the custom menu and when I turned them off I didn't get it that I had to save that setting after I changed it. Once I got that right, no more histos. At least now I know where to find them should I ever want to torture myself again.

Before you give up and reformat, and lose all the shots you've taken so far, consider getting an adapter so you can view your SD card contents on your computer. If that doesn't work try some file recovery software.
Good luck,

After downloading the manual to my laptop and then my phone, it was still clumsy for me so I kept searching KEH until I found a pristine manual for my D300 at KEH for $8.
I also found the Magic Lantern manual for the D300 on Amazon before that and found it very helpful. It's the manual i use most often right now until I can get Office Depot to put a spiral binding on the factory manual so it will stay open to the page I want.
Keep checking KEH stock and good luck.

His manners may be a bit off but he sure is a cute little helper. Great shot!
