Trouble updating the firmware on my Nikon D7000

Hi folks. I am having a devil of a time trying to update the firmware on my D7000. Right now I'm running
the following: (A) 1.02, (B) 1.03, (L) 1.006. According to instructions I downloaded the updates for (A) & (B) on an SD card which I am then supposed to put in card slot #1 in the camera. Then I bring up "Firmware version" in the Setup menu. At which point I'm supposed to see instructions on what to do. But no instructions come up, just the list of current firmware versions. What am I doing wrong? I seem to have the correct exe and bin files on the SD card but it seems like nothing is jogging the camera to do its thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Start with a blank SD card and put the firmware updates in the root directory.

Card must be formatted in camera first

I used to have problems with that myself. What is important is to only put the BIN folder in your SD card, and do not put that bin folder in any other folder within your SD card, and if you have any other left over files from Nikon on your SD card, delete them, the only one you want on your card is the bin folder, DO NOT PUT IT IN THE DCIM FOLDER.

At the very bottom of the Nikon USA download page for firmware updates is a link that gives step by step instructions. That saved me as the first set was fairly oblique!
Good luck

Rick

The card need not be blank. But you do have to put the expanded software into the root directory.

Where most get it wrong is trying to use the download. You have to run the download to get the bin file to copy to the root directory.
