Totally agree. Windshield cleaners are for windshields. Zeiss cleaners are specifically formulated for coated lenses.

It's a shame that the word "telemarketing" even exists. It's gotten so bad that if I don't recognize a number on caller ID, I pick up the phone and immediately hang up. I used to tell them to put me on the No Call list, and they agreed, but that doesn't seem to help. Even adding my name to the National No Call list hasn't stopped them. There are many organizations that are exempt from that list.

I think I may start listening to them, talking a lot, asking them questions, and generally wasting their time. I may also call them back and ask them for money. I know that in many cases, it isn't possible to call telemarketers. What we need is a way to block certain phone numbers, the way we can block spam.

EDIT: Maybe we can block them.

Jerry, there is a free service that Call Forwards all of your calls to their server which screens out all robo-calls and then forwards legitimate calls back to you. I've used it now for about a month and it really works. The only drawback is that your phone still rings once before the call is forwarded. The url is nomorobo.com. Cheers - JRH

Check to make sure the sound is not turned off or set too low to hear. There is a speaker icon in the lower right side of the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

Also, (I know this sounds dumb because I've done it) check to see that your speakers are plugged into the right socket.

Cameta is where you want to buy refurbished products. As far as I know they are the only one to offer a year year warranty.
Refurbished products, as most probably you know, are demos, open boxes or returned products. The dealer checks the product to make sure it is working to their specs and when necessary adjustments are made. Look at it this way, a refurbished product could have some minor scuffs but in general it is a brand new product.
I have bought from Cameta before and I have never ever had a bad experience with them.

Now you tell me how anybody can shoot something so beautiful! If your starving ok but just for fun and bragging rights its just not right. Beautiful shot

I used to kid some of my animal-loving friends by telling them I shoot deer with a 35mm Canon with a 36-shot magazine. My photographer friends understood the joke and laughed. The PETA-types would explode in a rage until I showed them my 35mm Canon. I totally agree with those who condemn hunting these magnificent animals for sport. Our herd in Ohio was last reported at over 10 million. We have to allow hunting to thin the herd or they will die from starvation. We are the only predators left - no wolves, no cougers, etc. Wish there was another way to deal with the problem

I've had no problems - but I use AdBlock Plus. It cuts down on the trash on screen considerably.

Oh, no! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Where do these idiots come from? Must be the same one who Poo - pooed. Win 10 when it first came out. I have loaded 10 on several computers since it first came out and it appears to be the best OS that Microsoft has come out with to date. So far, I have loaded the new update on two machines (one being an Acer laptop) and no problems. It is a bit leaner and meaner.

I second that estimate of Win 10. I've been an IT guy since DOS 1.1 and I've personally used just about every Windows OS (except ME). WIN 10 stands above all that came before. I just completed the 1511 upgrade with NO problems in about 30 minutes. Once you get used to it, you'll appreciate how much better it is.

I recently started shooting film again also. One thought on an approach for you is to first just dip your toe in the film pool again -- by getting a less expensive but good -- film camera before jumping all in. Just to ensure that the reality of dealing with film matches the hopes and pleasant memories.
Having said that, if you have some existing Nikon lenses, you might check out the very good Nikon F100 -- often available from reputable stores like B&H, Adorama, and KEH. Another more classic alternative is the Nikon FM3a -- manual focus only and can operate fully manual without batteries; or, with TTL metering and Aperture priority with batteries. I have and use both. Very enjoyable to go fully retro with the FM, a manual lens, and a roll of TriX.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-mandatory-steps-safe-upgrade-windows-10/

For those UHHers who haven't upgraded yet. I used an earlier version of this checklist and encountered no problems. Upgrade took about 45 minutes start-to-finish. Based on reading other tech forums, no one who followed this process had any problems. I was resistent to upgrading - but now I'm glad I did.

The page in the link also provides guidance for those who don't want to upgrade.

A word of warning - you must be on Windows 8.1 to upgrade to 10. It took almost an hour to upgrade from 8 to 8.1. I had to run Windows Upgrade before and after going to 8.1. That was a gut-wrenching experience. It took 3 tries before I got it right.

For a couple of weeks, every time I start Windows Live Mail, a window pops up telling me to protect my account info by signing in again. Signing in again doesn't stop that pop-up, so I ignore it.

For the past few days, when I exit my email, a window pops up asking me if I want to send the mail in my Outbox. I don't have an Outbox. Clicking Yes or No makes no difference. The window keeps popping up.

Just now, I lost all my contacts. Clicking on Contacts shows nothing but blank space. When I start to type someone's name in the To part of the email, it doesn't fill in the rest of the name. I'll have to reload my contacts from my backups.

Jerry,
I also use Windows Live Mail and have had no problems since switching to WIN 10. This past week, I started getting the dialog box about mail in my Outbox. There is none - but clicking "Yes" closes the box and let's me proceed to shut-down. Not sure why you're having problems with your Contacts. So far, I've not encountered that problem. It's possible that the way you upgraded to WIN 10 may be causing the problem. My PC had WIN 8 on it when I bought it. I went through and ensured that all apps and drivers were current. Then, I upgraded to WIN 8.1 (required to upgrade to 10). Once 8.1 was installed and stable, I upgraded to WIN 10. So far, no problems. Wish there was an emogi for crossed fingers!

As you may know, for the last couple of weeks I have been taking my Nikon D 750 everywhere and using it to take photos of anything and everything. Last night I had to make an airport run. The airport is at a considerable distance, and though there is little traffic out here, it was starting to rain. I was past the self imposed --"Must use the new camera" period, but the D 750 was sitting next to me on the desk top, so I grabbed it to bring along. Night+rain+airport, might add up to something interesting.
As I got to the bottom of my driveway it was full dark with some interesting clouds to the south. I stopped, waited for the helpful "delayed headlights" to go off and took the first picture using the night vision effect. Kind of moody, noisy, (almost looks like grain) reminds me of some shots in the old days push processing Tri X with Dektol for max grain. In no way a brilliant shot, but satisfying. The trip to the city was uneventful. Once in town there was a bit of traffic, but I was able to take a few night/rain shots along the way. I thought of pulling into the observation area to take a shot or two of planes landing, realized that the next plane in would be the one I was meeting! Went to the terminal and parked --- still raining, with the camera under my vest, ran, as much as I do nowadays, up under the roofed area around the terminal. I quickly snapped a few shots at angles to the terminal face and went inside. One is the second picture attached. Everything else was uneventful, plane was on time, my wife had a good flight, the luggage was fast and came undamaged -- well maybe not uneventful -- current air travel standards, darn good. Made the trek home, and is my habit, before I went to bed I downloaded the new pictures into the computer. As I reviewed them, I came to a realization.
Now don't get me wrong, I really do like the capabilities digital offers. I love being able to see the results immediately, and never running out of "film". The list of benefits is long and obvious.
Here is the thing -- and I do realize the digitals can do things film could never do,(not to mention PP) I want my digital pictures to be indistinguishable from the best results of my old film cameras. Probably one reason I am so fond of the DF, and even why I still shoot some film with the Leica and various Nikon F models. As I continue to work with the cameras, I am convinced I can come very close.

What about you? What do you want from your digital camera?
As you may know, for the last couple of weeks I ha... (show quote)

What I want is color that matches or exceeds Kodachrome (25/64...). I've yet to see a digital photo that comes out of the camera as good as the slides I shot back in the 60s and 70s. I guess with enough PP you can come close - but my slides didn't require PP to capture fantastic color depth and contrast.

Is it wishful thinking?
