Can someone please explain to me the differences,(other than price) of the various Nikon Series cameras? D3200, D5200, and D700, etc., etc. Thank you. I keep hearing about full frame cameras, but can't afford 5-6'000.

Use DPReview.com and do a side by side comparison.

With the current breed, the ones with a single number after the D are the pro (expensive) models. Those with three numbers are full frame, and the four digit models have the APS-C sensors.

Older models D1, D2, D100 - D300 all had the smaller sensors.

There are various auto focus sensors and metering parameters. DP Review, as mentioned above, as well as NikonUSA.com have lots of information on specific models.

High pixel count is good, but will be sacrificed for faster shutter speeds. So, you do have to think about how and what you like to shoot, to determine what will serve you best.

I have the D3200 with the 18-55 lens and love it. Still getting use to all the different settings but it is a great camera.

Thx. I have a D3100, but was told a full frame is far superior, but don't see where they say full frame on the ones i looked at.

No. A D4 is FF and so is a DF.

As I stated and as other folks did, use DPReview for a side by side comparison. Simple enough no?

As to 'FF are far superior'? In that person's dream only. This is not the sensor size that is important but the sensor quality and pixel density.

A DX can surpass a FF.

It depends on what you plan to shoot. Full frame excels in landscapes or tight places because it has a wider field of view than crop sensor cameras. Different setups are best for different situations. Action shots require a different setup than birds in flight, or portraits, or landscapes or low light situations, etc. No one camera setup does it all. What you spend depends on the type of lenses and camera you need to take the type of shots you want to take. You said you can't afford $5-6 K. But you didn't say what you can afford and what type of photographic subjects you want to pursue. Without that info you are asking an open ended question like what car should I buy.

Do you mean D750? Nikon does not make a model 7500.
