I shoot Nikon because I have lenses and accessories that go back to my film days. To me the actual performance differences between Nikon and Canon are slight and insignificant. If I was you I would stick with Canon, you have lenses and familiarity with the system.

That said, if I ever was to change, I would probably start over with Sony mirrorless.

If you want to shoot mostly video, get a GoPro. If you want to shoot mostly still and must have RAW, the Olympus TG5 is your best bet. Me, I'm waiting on the W300. It is rated for twice the depth and is equally shock absorbent.

I have the Nikon 28-300 on my D750 75% of the time. Quality is more than acceptable for anyone short of a truly discerning pro. That said, I bought mine from a truly discerning pro who used it for only one shoot and decided it wasn't for him. I got a great deal and couldn't be happier. That said, if price and weight were no object, I would get a 24-70 2.8 to go along with my 70-200 2.8. However, price and weight do factor for me!

DSLR 9709 8449 -13%
Mirrorless 3345 3159 -6%

In terms of sales of interchangeable lens cameras, mirrorless grew market share from 26% to 27%. Not statistically significant in terms of growth.

Not true that most pros shoot Canon. It is true that most pro action photographers do. This goes back to early auto focus days when Canon was superior. And let's face it, once you start with a system that works for you, it is very expensive to change. Studio pros and landscape artists gravitate towards Nikon, as do low light shooters.

First question...how deep will you take it? If you scuba, I would suggest something rated to 100 feet. Second question...what is your desired output, still or video? Tough to beat a GoPro for video, even tougher to beat a Nikon AW130 for still and occasional video. Third question...what low light capability will you need? At greater depths or cloudy days it can become an issue. Finally, do you have an immediate need? While you can still find the AW130 on ebay, most major outlets have them on backorder. Maybe an AW140 is in the works.

File a claim with eBay. My family are avid sellers/buyers. Our experience is that even when the buyer is wrong, which you are not, eBay always sides with the buyer. Of course, you'll need to return the lens. You may be able to negotiate an after the fact discount with the seller if you wish, but I wouldn't.

I use an old 2.8 70-200 ED AF-S that I have had for years on my D750. Sharp as a tack, focuses fast. If you can live without VR you can probably find one for less than $500.

I have an older 70-200 f2.8 that I prefer when I can carry other lenses, but am quite satisfied with my 28-300VR whne traveling light. If you check other threads on the latter you will find "truly discerning photographers" bash the snot out of it. I look at it like I look at my 10 year old Kenwood receiver...not as good as a new Denon, but plenty good enough for me.

CMan1, Not getting into the age old discussion of what brand is besr, bu curious as to where you bought the Nikon. I ve purchased several Nikon products over the years and was never shorted anything. Perhaps you ran afoul of a grey market seller. In any case a warnogn to fellow Hogs wold be appropriate. Whatever you shoot, there is lots of good stuff on the UHH. Happy shooting!

I just bought a very lightly used one for travel. I asked the same question 2-3 months ago, response was overwhelmingly positive. I saw someone else posted the question a week or so back, responses were overwhelmingly negative on image.

So far I am satisfied with how it performs on my D750. I will say if I wasn't traveling by plane I have a variety of other lenses in my bag that I prefer.

FYI, there are numerous lightly used ones on ebay in the $550-$650 range. I paid $575 including shipping.

I bought a refurb D750 from Cameta a year ago. Great price, great service. Cameta offers a one year warranty on refurbs, which my local dealer will not do without extra cost. My local dealer will match internet pricing on new USA products, so when I buy new I go there.

Very happy with my reurbished D750.

Nikon F4S. Bought used in 1998. Nikon 70-200 2.8 is on it almost all the time. Fuji X-tra 400 color film. The combo weighs a ton but is still my favorite camera. I have no idea how many thousands of shots it has taken with no professional service. Built like a tank.

That said, my general purpose carry camera is now a Nikon D750. But when I have the time and the energy, out comes the F4S.
