Yesterday I watched Apple's latest presentation on its new iPhones. I'm interested in the opinions of our UHH contributors of the camera system (still and video) of these new iPhone 11's.

I have an iPhone 8 Plus, and while the camera system is OK for what it is, I would be lost without my DSLR's. For me, their creative potential will never be surpassed by these new cell phone cameras. And my DSLR's will capture video, too.

BUT, will these cell phone cameras eat away at the population who would potentially use DSLR's?

OR, are these new phone cameras a good back-up system to carry around?

So many questions!!!

I am unable to send photos using Photoshop Elements 12. I haven't been using this program for several years for this purpose but have been using Picasa instead. Whenever I attempt to send a photo using PSE12, I get the following message: "Your e-mail could not be sent because your e-mail address was not recognized or is invalid. Use Edit > Preferences to enter a different e-mail address in the E-mail settings."

I know the email addresses I am using are correct so maybe they aren't being recognized for some reason. I purchased PSE12 several years ago and don't pay any fees to use it. Maybe that's the problem, who knows!!! I would gladly start paying if that is the reason for my difficulty. I could always go back to using Picasa but I'd like to solve this problem and start using PSE12 again! Any comments or suggestions would be most welcome.

Digital is convenient and its image quality is excellent. I know of a retired wedding photographer that was using Hasselblad cameras and Zeiss lenses for his job and one day I was admiring a beautiful 20x30 image of a bride with excellent resolution and no grain that he had in his studio. When I told him that the quality of a Hasselblad with Zeiss lenses were simply awesome he laughed at me and he told me that the image came from a digital Canon and it was not a professional camera. After that I began to believe more in digital photography.
I like to shoot film but today it is not as convenient like it was in the past. For sure I do not feel like going back to the optical darkroom again. Monochrome images have been my passion and I feel I can do better with conversions than what I used to do in the past and by the way, I can do it better than I did in the darkroom.
I see one big advantage with medium and large format and it is the resolution of even small details that in my humble opinion is superior to digital.
There must be a reason why nobody today makes a film camera.

As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm using CS6, and I'll keep using that till it doesn't work any longer. It's a good sign that CS2 still works.

As for free, that's debatable. People have followed the steps to download it, but were never able to actually get the program, myself included. I mailed my copy of CS2 to a member here, but it never arrived, and the post office wasn't able to locate it.

GIMP is about the best linux-native PP program. It's similar to PS in its abilities, but has a very different UI. You'll need to pair it with a raw processor such as UFRaw. There's another one out there people seem to like as well or better, but I don't remember its name. UFRaw is not intuitive to use.

DarkTable is a good image organizer. Like LR, it has some image processing abilities, but isn't as full-featured as LR.

If you're wedded to Adobe, you can run Windoze-native programs using Wine. However, don't expect peak performance. Wine is essentially an interpreter that translates the Windoze program at run-time. This means you're doing two processor-intensive tasks at once: graphics processing and interpreting the Windoze executable.

As an aside, for those of you running Macs who want to play with Linux/Unix, the Mac OS has been for some years just a Unix shell. You can drop below the hood and run Unix directly without much trouble.
