This is an excerpt from an update for the ahsomme Software users. Ahsomme is Mac only business software.
The last newsletter was sent in late 2018 after we had commenced the “Farewell Tour”. Back then the issue was getting Ahsomme ready for the, then new, 64-bit “Mojave” Mac OS. According to all reports, we have succeeded; the 2018 64-bit Ahsomme runs nicely on Mojave.
We had not expected any “drama” moving to Catalina.
But every day I get reports of software that does not work with the new OS, things like SuperDuper, CarbonCopyCloner, Icon Styx, most things by Adobe, and even a few things by Apple. The reports say something like this: WAIT, we’ve found some problems, we are working on them.
Most of these issues deal with file systems and file I/O. They “should” not be a problem for the 64-bit Ahsomme. However, it might be “fun” to run some tests. Especially since Les of A-Rental Connection has agreed to sponsor the effort and let us share the results with the world.
Meanwhile, if you don’t “need” to upgrade your Mac to Catalina, don’t.
I am stuck having uploaded Catalina and now my Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 and Bridge do not work.
I have spent hours trying to resolve this. I guess I will call Apple and see if I can go backwards and see if that will get my Photoshop back.
It is very frustrating. I do have it running on my laptop which I had not upgraded to Catalina.
I just finished talking with an Apple Tech Support guy who recommended waiting to install Catalina because it now supports 64 bit applications. So if your software is 32 bit, it may or may not work. His advice was to wait until the various software companies publish software updates that bring their programs and applications up to 64 bit operation. That’s straight from Apple! I’m leaving my computer with Mojave installed.
I'm about to replace my ailing Fusion Drive in my late 2012 MacMini with an SSD.
I will not be installing Catalina. My current OS does everything I need.
In 6 months when the dust has settled I'll re-visit Catalonia and see what the score is then.

To all you "gotta have the latest" folks...I run a mid 2011 iMac with High Sierra. It does everything I need to do perfectly. Photo wise I run Affinity and Aperture. They all work fine. I do not see any need to"downgrade" to the latest problems. They do not offer anything new that I care to have. I also have a Windows XP system with Photoshop CS2 that still runs admirably well. I don't go on-line with it so security is not an issue. I also drive a 25 year old car that works well. I also use a flip-phone. I am never distracted in public or driving. Am I old? Yes and enjoying every minute.
Bummer! From the title I thought we were going to California!
Having had absolutely problem with previous Mac OS versions I installed Catalina and as I noted in an earlier post, my very old version of PS Elements no longer works as it's a 32 bit application. This is my only program that doesn't work with Catalina.
While I still prefer the (otherwise) flawless operation of a Mac over a PC, I have to say that perhaps Apple dropped the ball on this one. I suppose it's unfair to expect them to wait until all software products have "caught up" to them but they did little to warn users about this issue, telling us that 32 bit applications would be a problem but not recommending we wait to install Catalina until problems like this were iron out. Since I fully expected to update my photo processing software anyway, this is a mild annoyance, not a catastrophe but I still think Mac should have coordinated better with a large manufacturer like Adobe or they should have warned their users better.

They have been warning their users ever since Mojave came out, whenever you ran a 32 bit program you were told about it. As far as coordinating with Adobe, Adobe's Lightroom and PS CC versions are fully compatible, the problems are with older versions.
The only reason I held off was to make sure my printer drivers were going to work.
This happens in both Mac and PC worlds, I had accounting software that wouldn't work with Windows 10 when I bought a new computer and had to upgrade the software. I will lose a couple of packages I have on the Mac with this upgrade but they are not worth it to me to pay to upgrade to the 64 bit versions so they are gone.
AGREE, DONT UPGRADE. IM FINDING THINGS DAILY THAT DON'T WORK OR CRASH.

I’m not sure how you could have missed the warnings. For two years I’ve been getting warnings from my computer that this and that software is not 64bit compatible and to check with the developers. This should be no surprise to anyone. Developers have to keep up. Adobe has.
