I agree. I might add that in addition to having no idea about formats, they don't care. It's all about snapping the photo and sending to Social media.

I have found cathedral interiors are lit well enough to support a quality camera body/F4 lens like you have.
Remember, tours move rather briskly and there is little time to swap out lenses, and you don't want to be "That Guy/Gal" holding up the tour causing others to miss seeing the sights.
In such cases, I would shoot interiors at F4 (wide open), use the reciprocal shutter speed rule (1 over the length of the lens, 1/60 sec for the 12-70mm lens), and set the ISO setting to "Auto".
Now you "have the shot" and it will not be blurry (Shutter Speed - set too slow) and your Depth of Field will be good using F4.
Important to note that "Noise" is "Fixable" and "Blur" and "Focus" are not.
When you return home you may correct "Noise" in post-processing using PhotoShop, Topaz Photo AI, or another quality specialty editing program that will DeNoise/Sharpen your treasures.
Best Wishes for safe travels, take many pics and share your best with us here on UHH.

PS: Practice in any dimly lit place BEFORE you go to see what to expect and correct accordingly.
Also, consider the "P" and "A" settings on your camera body as they can be of great help in Lo-Light settings for such an Expen$ive Trip.
I expect to be severly Flogged for the previous comment, sigh.

I think your recommendation about using A or P is a good one. Especially the P. I have used P quite often and found that being able to change the aperture of shutter speed a great help. Assuming one knows what the two are and how they relate to each other. I almost never set ISO to auto, 200 is my preferred setting.

Stepping away from comparing specs, is there a camera that you just like?

It could be ease of use, results, handling, fun to use or any of those and more. It may even be a camera that you return to even when, by some measures, it is obsolete.

My 2012 Pentax X-5 "Superzoom" 16 MP bridge camera is one. I was surprised they were still going for around $120 when most others from that time were $30.

Fast handling, easy control, but not much manual exposure options and a decent lens. It does have some visual highlight/shadow warnings that are handy in the less-than-perfect EVF. More than once I've returned to it, or rediscovered shots taken with it that I liked.

Thoughts?

The last camera that I really liked was a film camera, Nikon N80. Since then, have owned several digital cameras that are OK to hold, but have yet to find one that I really liked to hold and use.

Hmm.... Could be, but....

There has always been a distinction between serious photographers and snap-shooters. For me, by definition, a "serious" photographer will always think "about how the subject is presented" regardless of how easy the camera makes the picture-taking process.

I think most digital photographers consider at least some editing to be part of the overall process. In this context, camera settings and post-adjustments are in a basket of options for getting what you want. Maybe some photographers have shifted more of the adjustments to post. And perhaps that can be viewed as a lessening of creativity at the camera end of the business.

It is interesting that smart-phones, the cameras of the masses, are incorporating more and more creative controls!?

it will be the same as with digital cameras. Lots of special/creative features, most of which seldom get used.

Ridiculous. If Nikon was doing that why wouldn’t they do it with their most popular products instead of a more niche product.

Good question. Why don’t they. It would take considerable more research to determine exactly what is occurring. But you can’t tell me Nikon didn’t know status of their shipment. Also, how many times has someone expressed joy at receiving a new camera and/or lens before expected arrival time.

I ordered the ZF on September 20th. Nikon reported US shipments would begin October 31 or later. Yesterday, B&H emailed that my order shipped. This afternoon it arrived. I’m guessing B&H must be a Nikon A-list vendor.

Called manipulating customer satisfaction with service rendered. Even the police and fire use it. We'll have someone there in five minutes. Arrives in 2 minutes, citizen very happy with service. Arrives in 5 minutes 15 seconds, citizen very unhappy.

I was so proud that I showed some control and made up my mind to not buy the Nikkor 135mm Plena. Went into the camera store today to see what goodies they have for my new Leica Q3. Then they asked me if I wanted the new Plena as he placed the box on the counter in front of me. Just had to look, didn’t I. That’s like asking a kid in a candy store if he wants to sample some cotton candy.
Well. I now own the Plena. I’m so weak!

As someone once said, "a man has got to know his limitations." And then again, maybe not. Was it bought for the Leica Q3?

I will be flying domestically via Spirit airlines and want to bring my DSLR w/18-135 and a 100-400 lens. Suggestions on the best way to do this? I have a small backpack that fit the camera and 18-135 and thought of using that as my personal carryon bag and putting the 100-400 in the check baggage. I also have a Thinktank digital holster that holds both. I'm guessing the camera and lenses will get looked at. Any ideas are appreciated.

My wife and I recently took a domestic flight on one of the major carriers. I took a camera, 4 lenses, flash, and various accessories. All in a camera case that fit in the overhead luggage compartment. I would never put camera gear in a suitcase that is going to be checked in. While I didn't have anything stolen from my checked suitcase my wife had some very expensive cosmetics stolen from hers.

For finite values of 'forever'. Google 'flash drive lifetime' and you find:

Memory cards and USB drives are NOT designed for long term storage. You should always backup your data on to another device. The data will normally stay valid for a period of up to 10 years if stored under normal conditions. The data cells inside carry a charge which can dissipate over time.

I do not delete the photos on the SD card. I copy the photos onto my desktop computer, an SD flash drive, and a stand along WH disk drive. That way all my photos are stored in four different places. Because technology changes so often am considering adding the cloud to the process.
