I can't do most landscapes in vertical mode.....
Only on a rare occasion.
I'll bet it's simply because most people naturally hold the phone in vertical orientation by default.

I suspect that most of the younger people are used to shooting in this orientation in order to post to Instagram, Tittok.

Really? I thought they all held them at a 45° angle.

Yup, the majority of the people view their phone in vertical orientation.
OR, they have no idea how the vertical/horizontal formats work/look, and what may be best for what.

I agree. I might add that in addition to having no idea about formats, they don't care. It's all about snapping the photo and sending to Social media.

It is because of twitter, instagram, and snap chat, things like that that require vertical images and video...
In today’s society, youngsters feel that their value and importance in the world is directly proportional to the number of people who follow them on social media. who post a “like” on their photos of themselves. So the selfy seems to be the most important use of the cellphone camera, hence the preponderance of photos taken in portrait mode on social media. Personally, though, I normally try to shoot in the landscape mode. I guess that comes from so many years of using a camera. Once in a while the portrait mode is better suited. And I don’t take selfies.

I don’t find either mode, portrait or landscape to be irrelevant as both have their respective places. It is most likely that these youngsters tend to us the vertical, or portrait mode either due to inexperience or because it’s just easier to use for their purposes. Only practice and experience will guide one as to which mode is best in a given situation.

I'll bet some even think "That's how you're supposed to hold it."...
