I've not used a cropped sensor and all my cameras have been heavy starting from my old film days with 2-1/4 medium format cameras, long, fat, heavy lenses, plus always carrying around a tripod.

My small frame, at 100 lbs., you'll never hear me complain about what size and weight I'm carrying around in gear. For me it's all about quality, never quantity.

Go for it !

Oh crap ! I did not know that Seagate purchased LaCie. I have four of the little Seagates buggers. I've bought one every year for the past four years. The last one I bought about three months ago. They all work, knocking on wood... The recent one, a 4T, I purchased the recovery plan for $14 which covers me for three years. If something goes wrong with it, you send it back to them and they say they guarantee they will recover the data, put it on a new ext drive and send it to you at no cost.

I have approximately 10 ext drives that all work. Some are close to 15 years old. (The LaCies are the only ones that have ever failed me.) They all back up each other, so if one fails, I have several more with pretty much the same and most important data.

I do think that I will take this advice and go with WD or HGST enterprise class drive that this poster recommends. Hard work and expensive equipment are not something to screw around with.

I've had 4 LaCies fail on me, each within a short time of their warranties ending. I never banged, dropped or abused them in any way. Hard to believe a company like that stays in business. Go for the WD. I've had two of them ranging from 8 years and 4 years. Still work perfectly.

I use WeTransfer. There's a free version and a pay version. I've never needed to pay. I think you're allowed to send 2 GB at a time.

First year of college (1967) I was looking for an elective and my mother suggested photography. I'd had a little Brownie camera in high school and liked taking pictures, so her suggestion made a little sense. And once you set foot in a darkroom and learn to process your own stuff, it becomes magical and addictive; an addiction that has to be fed and has no cure.

Crombie, There really is no technique involved in this kind of photography. It's just playing with plugins like Topaz, not rocket science. Get on the Topaz site and you will find dozens of this kind of thing. If there's any way I can help you, I've used them all (and also plugin companies will walk you through anything you want to know).

That's right, you're always covered when you request/demand a signature and places like B&H and Apple won't deliver high priced items without it.

In my neighborhood, like yours, nothing ever goes missing and the carrier has learned that it's safe to leave things in certain neighborhoods, so they blow off getting the package signed for. However, that does not exempt them from responsibility if they leave something without getting a signature and you don't receive it.

I ordered a MacBook Pro from Apple a few years ago. It didn't arrive when it was supposed to and then I got word that it had been delivered. Needless to say, I was freaked. I called Apple and they were somewhat suspicious that I was trying to get away with something.

They did manage to track down the package at a neighbor's townhouse up the street. The specific carrier guy was sent back to investigate and he found the package lying at the front door a day later where he had mistakenly left it.

Obviously, this could have been a disaster. A big box from Apple, snowbirds away for the season. I would have been covered though. They did not have my signature which could easily be proven.

Don't worry, after it leaves a REPUTABLE store, it is the carrier's responsibility to get it to the right locale, and at least one or the other, store or carrier will make it right. No one wants a scathing review on "RipoffReport.com." It's much worse than having to replace something that the buyer never got. Just stay on it and raise your voice where you need to.

No skillful, talented and serious photographer would use an iPone for anything important. That will always be the case.

Yes, we all know that Nik has been free since Google bought it. That was also the beginning of the end. We knew that too.

Dead in the water. You may still be able to use it depending on upgrades to operating systems, but it will be completely defunct in the short future.

The good news is, the guys from Nik have started a new company called Luminar. There are a lot of similarities using the same filters with similar or recognizable names and functions. This is the replacement. Tough on a lot of us who have been using Nik for ten years and paid close to $500 for the bundle, but this is what we've got now, for a much more affordable price.

I beg to differ. There will always be more than enough work for skilled, creative photographers.
The iPhone stuff is cute though, I must say. But, maybe I aught to think about starting to worry.
At this point, I have too much work to stop for a less than positive think break.

(The pro cameraman and still shooters I know definitely don't have near the work they used to have.
The acceptance of images as a commodity and not an art form is a social change that has come.)
