What are the camera companies going to do to compete with the iPhone X?

I am forced to use my DH film Canon EOS 620; I can't buy a new camera. The cost to develop is cheaper than any money that I could save up for a digital mirrorless camera. Maybe the digital mirrorless cameras will come down in price after Christmas so that is my goal to buy one then. With the Apple iPhone X as competition, I don't know what the camera companies are going to do. From what I've read, the Apple iPhone X is going to be spectacular. I'll decide after Christmas.

The specs of the Iphone X are not at all impressive in regards to the camera. But they seem to provide some apps that will make some things easier to do for some users. The camera companies are not going to do anything because of this Iphone. They will just focus on their business as usual.

Nothing. If you want a camera you would buy one. The iphone is not a real camera no matter what.

I've heard that Nikon is going to put a call/text feature in their next upgrade to the D850. The model nomenclature is still under consideration. Though rumor has it the camera will be branded D850cp. The earpiece and microphone are going to be incorporated into the bottom plate of the camera. Not convenient if the camera is on a tripod, so there are trade offs. The touch sensitive screen on the back will be used for the texting function. Along with the database of stored photos used for Program mode photos, there will be an extensive vocabulary and intelligent design that will guess the words you want to use in sentences. There is also a phonebook in which to store friend's numbers, addresses, etc.
Nikon developers admit this is going to be a bit of challenge. However, they think this should put Nikon ahead of many cell phones for photography use.

Cathy - people are not going to cart around a camera (DSLR nor mirrorless) and pretend it's a phone ... The camera companies have been suffering from phones for years. Carrying around a phone that is also your camera and your computer in a single piece of technology that gets smaller and more powerful & feature-rich every year is the way technology goes. But, specialized photography like low-light or high-speed action is still the world of DSLRs. Unlike the 80s and 90s where you needed a camera, of some form, to take pictures, that's no longer the case. In fact, a camera-specific piece of equipment is now a luxury item rather than a necessity to participate in photography.

The iPhone X camera is supposed to be very good..... COMPARED TO OTHER PHONE CAMERAS.
Expect to see deals on mirrorless cameras around the same time everything else goes on sale for the holiday season. Which seem to happen earlier every year.

Probably nothing. Smartphone sensors a so small they can't really compete with DSLR (APS-C or Full Frame) sensors.

Those pros using the iPhones are formidable!
I've done the next best thing to compete with them, I've bought a Canon 1Dx....., but if it turns out that I still can't compete with them, then I'll be forced to join them.
I admit, right now I carry both a 1Dx AND an iPhone. Would certainly be a WHOLE LOT easier if I carried JUST the iPhone(and cheaper too!)!!! LoL

True... my smartphone is somewhat heavier and bulkier than my Canon Powershot A1400 pocket camera, and it is nowhere near as big as some smartphones I see people on the street using.
