I am forced to use my DH film Canon EOS 620; I can't buy a new camera. The cost to develop is cheaper than any money that I could save up for a digital mirrorless camera. Maybe the digital mirrorless cameras will come down in price after Christmas so that is my goal to buy one then. With the Apple iPhone X as competition, I don't know what the camera companies are going to do. From what I've read, the Apple iPhone X is going to be spectacular. I'll decide after Christmas.
First to compair a I-Phone camera function to any DSLR is the diffrence between night and day. I-Phones have taken a bite out of point & shoot cameras and will never replace any real camera. I ask you this Question. If a Pro Photographer came to photograph an event with a I-phone would you hire him or her.

It depends. If I loved their work with pro gear, yes. Google some and you will be pleasantly surprised. Especially compared to some “PRO” work I have seen with pro gear that I would never consider. Bottom line, it is the photographer.

An I-Phone is not Pro gear, The flash and lens are a joke...Are you telling me you would hire some one to photograph your son's or daughters wedding with a I-Phone...You got to be kidding me.

I’m saying that just because you use pro gear, it doesn’t mean that you get good enough results.

Now who is kidding whom?
Yes -- I know we hashed this out two weeks ago and I agree that the photographer is most of the equation.
The question is still Why? Yes -- I can understand guests using smart phones, but when much better cameras are available (faster autofocus, off camera flash, superior optics, ...) why should a pro use a smart phone? And where is the backup SD card slot? -- especially with the iPhone -- no expandable storage? Absolute Fail.
I would fire a Pro if he showed up at my wedding with a smart phone -- just like I would fire a Pro if he showed up at my wedding with a Point & Shoot.
And I ask this question. Where on the iPhone is the micro SD Card slot? I'll answer that one for everyone. There isn't one. Absolute Fail.
I remember when the Canon fans were beating up the Sony fans because most of the Sony's don't have a second card slot. Many even insisted with re: to event/wedding photography not having a second card slot was a showstopper. As a Sony fan I agree with the Canon fans on this -- I would not use a camera that didn't have a backup memory card for event/wedding photography. So I would not use a Sony unless it had a backup card slot like the Sony A9.
Failure by Apple for event/wedding photography -- no expandable memory.
