I was trying to use the brush tool, I wanted to get to shape dynamics. I went to window>brush...and all is greyed out and unusable. Any ideas why?

Will, There's several reasons why a tool is grayed out. The most common is that the layer, operation, or selection is not applicable to using that particular tool. Without a great deal more detail, we'll just be guessing.

Be sure that the layer to which you want to apply the brush tool is selected in the layers panel in PS. Sounds simple, but I have had that happen where one of the adjustment layers was selected instead of the target layer and a few tools were grayed out. This also applies to the drop-down menus in the tool bar at the top. Hope this helps!

I am still trying to use the brush tool. When I have chosen a brush etc. I can get everything on the left side of the brush panel to work, but the right side is greyed out. Everything from jitter size on down on the right does not work. What could this be? All is greyed out. I have the correct layer selected and all that. I have tried everything and nothing changes.

This is your second thread on this. Posting multiple time will not accelerate anything but instead confuse it.

You already had credible informed advice. While other folks are gentle, I am not.

Your issue is simple: USER ERROR. I have made it at first and still do at time, not paying attention (even if thought I did).

Ask the admin to delete one or the other.

The advice didn't work and this is a different matter. Pay attention.

It does not change the user error part, far from it.

Every time I hit a wall in PS CC or any other software it was because I did not do something before. This is your case, like it or not.

Your best bet is to try with another image, retrace your steps and find out WHY it does not work as you think it should. More often than not the answer is: It is not suposed to in specific conditions.

Determine what these conditions are (by experimenting) and be on your way.
8/16 bit can influence
color space can influence
lack of memory can influence (unlikely here but in other cases it happens)
The list is long. Just observe.

If you start 2 threads with the same title, how much help are you expecting? Having multiple problems with a single tool, doesn't warrant separate threads for each question, since all are related to that tool. Anyone with knowledge of that tool will find it easier to follow and help if the Q & A's are in one place.

Here's an idea - instead of berating other people who are asking for help and assuming their errors are the same as your self-confessed screw up, why not offer your assistance and your 'wisdom' in how you identified and solved the problem ????? Maybe they in fact did do something improperly just as you admit you did. Can't you just tell them what you did so they can correct it ? Saying that any functionality in the application 'can affect it' is like saying using PS can cause you to get bad results. Why do people feel a need to just belittle everyone else even under the guise of helping ? Feel better and more superior because you screwed up first ? If it helps you feel better about yourself, I guess you think that justifies your vitriol.

Seems that some here are quick to point out that they have made the determination that everyone is an idiot like they themselves admit to and then are quick to berate before they even understand the problem. How about using the old adage of if you have nothing to contribute that is helpful, its better to be a fool and keep your mouth shut rather than opening your mouth and proving to everyone that you are as foolish as you already admitted you are ??

Way to attract and educate new folks to the hobby Rongnongno. Sorry - just had enough of self righteous jerks who were never taught how to interact in a civilized society.

How can it be when I blame myself for missing the obvious?

And yes, I am telling the op he is doing the same thing. This is thew difference being honest and being politically correct but then again, who cares, right?

I figured this out and all is well. I have never heard him answer a question just shoot his mouth off offering no solutions. I never pay attention to one thing he says, and hopefully when I ask another question he will not reply.
