At what stage did you get wired on photography?

I read in the local paper that Snowy Owls were near my home in North Delta, BC in 2012. I burrowed my daughter's Canon T3i and drove to the site. I had not picked up a camera for 45 years.

When I got home to look at the results, I then decided this is what I want to do more seriously and often. It was very rewarding and fun.

What was it about photography that gave you the bug?

Mom worked for a Kodak retail store when I was born. So, more than likely, from the very beginning. Had a small Kodak 120 camera. When I was 5 mom and dad gave me a Leica IIIf. I still have and use that camera. Discovered the darkroom at age 17. It's gone on for quite a long time.

my dad's friend came back to W. NY from a trip to Arizona and showed slides which included a beautiful sunset with cactus silouettes. I knew I wanted to take similar photos, though I was only 6. At 9, my dad gave me an instamatic 104, and I would set up shots of my brothers doing action scenarios, and tried to shoot postcards of chipmunks in the Adirondack Mtns. Been a photographer ever since!

Watching an image magically appear in a tray of developer. I was about 8 at the time and even though my interest waxed and waned over the years it has never been very deep beneath the surface.

I started taking pictures of places I had been to when I was in the Navy in the 1960s. I've enjoyed taking pictures ever since.

My background is engineering. I began to realize my perspective on much in life was heavily skewed toward the purely technical side of things. Made a decision to try using photography to develop a more artistic outlook. It was a good move on my part as it has been a profitable and enjoyable hobby.

Went to Costa Rica first year bought a new point and shoot camera to capture my vacation, came home and out of 2000 shots 80% sucked, tried again the following year with a newer point and shoot, guess what same results.. Third year and trip, only this time a few months before I found Ken Rockwell and he pointed me to the book Understand Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Presto, exposure triangle, thats how a camera works. Bought my first Nikon D5000 went to Costa Rica and this time 80% of my photos came out. Haven't looked back since.....

When I was about eight years old, I saw a camera in the window of a drug store - $0.98. I bought it and started taking pictures. It used 127 film, but it was a half-frame camera. I got one exposure when I pushed down on the lever and another when I raised it - both on one frame of film. Eventually, the shutter stopped working (I didn't know about shutter counts back then.) I later got a camera with a flash! Wow! I've been buying cameras ever since.

Helped my parents clean out a storage area and poked around in a camera bag. I was 10 I think, Dad showed my how to load the film and we'll off I went 30 something years later!

Hard to say - developed a friendship with the manager of a local camera store, he let me hang there. We talked a lot and I bought, at his suggestion, an Argus A-4 a bit before graduation from HS and enlistment in the Navy. Got married, started having children and photography went by the wayside - no money for film and developing/printing except for special occasion. Retired and wanted something to do year around so got back into photography. Its a hobby, not a passion.

Had it all my life as I was given a camera at the age of 7 and it was something I enjoyed doing. The attached photo is me at 7 years old with my first camera.

I joined the Army and had a Yashica TRL, don't remember if is was the A or D as I had one of each at different times, I learned how to develop and print and various ways of manipulating both processes and quickly learned the possibilities are infinite. That, along with capturing memories got me hooked. I'll be glad when I have the time to learn digital as well as I think I know film. ;-)

My older brother had a dark room in the cellar and I used to watch him develop prints. I WAS HOOKED.
