Don't forget to buy an extra for a "back up"

Yeah!

Don't want to have to change lenses while shooting the rapids on the Colorado river!

I always strap $100K in fragile equipment to my body before doing anything risky!

It is recommended to stay away from gray market items (non-USA items) as explained in this article by Nikon.

This assumes you are in the USA. If you are in another country, you need to make sure the warranty you get covers where you are.

I hadn't thought of including a price range. So--under $200 probably point and shoot would prefer a view finder because the lenses wipe out during intense sunlight. ( I hate not being able to see what I'm shooting). I don't want to carry equipment around with me--only the camera in my purse. I'm usually on horseback or running around the barn or walking my dog or in a forest preserve when I take photos. I'm not a pro. i'd like to take good pictures framable, but not with all that equipment.

Thanks for all your help.

OK. Now we are in the Nikon S6500 or Canon Powershot Elph range.

Given you uses, you proably don't need to go overboard. But a lot will depend on your budget. How much do you want to spend?

The Panasonic Lumix line, that people have already mentioned, is a good low cost choice (around $300) and it has a Leica lens.

If you want more camera, you need to provide a price range.

I will spend money. I don't necessarily want to spend more than $3K.

At 3K you can get a 7D Mark II and one heck of a good lens.

From you avatar and posts, I see you appreciate (a) good glass.

Think I will wait then. Will it be eligible for Amazon Prime free shipping?

I have determined after long and deep study that there are two types of people in the world, two tribes as it were: Canon people and Nikon people. The difference must rest in the DNA of each type. I guess we'd have to disassemble a significant sample of each to determine the basis of the difference, how long-lasting it will be, and how significant the difference. We would need volunteers for the project. Unfortunately there would be problems putting the volunteers back together into working, functioning units.

I tried that. The clean up is a real pain. Putting them back together; impossible!

I mostly looking at t5i or d3300 right now. At some point would like to upgrade further. Black Friday has pretty good deal on D3300, 18-55 lens and 55-200 lens, both VR. All I would need would be a flash. I've always used Canon so not really sure about Nikon.

If you can afford to upgrade to the D3300 and buy replacement lenses, let's say the kit lens and one other lens for around $1,000, why not just get the 70D and use your current lenses?

Rod. I could not find anything else in the thread about this. What lenses do you have for your old Pentax? Will they work on a Pentax digital?

And you have a problem with that!

Shoot from the stands? Won't they let you stand at the back edge of the pool and get pictures of the swimmers coming toward you? Much better action shots from that view.

Actually, isn't your avatar a shot of you in a pool waiting for swimmers?
