Gee. This is tough. First, do you mean esf 18-135?

But sensor, focusing and other camera tech has advanced so much in the 10+ years since this camera came out, I would say you are due for a camera upgrade. Esp. for wildlife.

Do you have a budget?

Thank you so much, that's so funny, I was going to print it out and give it to my friend but he might be offended.

More reason to give it to him!!

You mean a broken camera prevented you to enjoy the sight and sounds of a new environment?

Man, you need an 'intervention'.

In the "Complete Walker" the author, Colin Fletcher, talks about having lost his camera gear early on in several week hike. He says that completing the trip without a camera opened his eyes to everything he was missing while focusing on taking pictures.

To me it's like this, a friend of mine, a watch collector, showed me his $10,000 Rolex watch, I ask him, now does this realy run faster as my Timex?

Mike Royko nailed this issue back in the mid 80's

If you are using VR, you might want to try turning it off. It interfers when taking a panning shot. Because of rapid direction change, you may need to shoot closer to 1/1000 unless you are situated at the end of the court so that action is coming toward you. If it is going across and you are good at following with the VR off you could shoot at 1/800. It sounds like the 80-200 2.8 should stay on your camera since it is 2.8 through the whole range.

Actually your last statement is only partially accurate. If you took a poll here you'd find that 7D owners use more FF lenses on their bodies than crop frame lenses. They are often mated with full frame primes and telephoto lenses from various manufacturers, including Canon L lenses. While the EFs 15-85 and the EFs 17-55 are very popular choices, so is the 24-105L, and the 17-40L, and the 70-200L and the 85L etc. Just because the camera is often sold with a kit lens, doesn't mean everyone buys it that way. I will be picking one up soon without the kit lenses and will happily be using it with both my FF and crop frame lenses.

Using the L series lens provides for maximum efficiency of the sensor. It is the whole being able to fill the frame with a shorter length lens. So you can get a 20.2 MP shot with a 200mm L lens where the FF would need a more expensive longer lens to fill its sensor and maximize MP.

What are your two current lenses and what do you like to shoot?

In a post yesterday, Imagesintime posted a link to the Lens Rentals site that shows the weather sealing of the 7Dll. Canon has indicated that it has 4x the sealing of the previous 7l. But what the heck did THAT mean?
I've wanted a camera that I can shoot in open rain with NO protection, so as to be able to work all the functions and menus, easily and freely.
Enter the 7Dmkll!!
In the accompanying article, the sealing is explained and demystified in detail. WOW, that is some heavy duty sealing! I feel this camera can indeed shoot in the open rain, with an equivalent lens of course! Being able to do sports and nature in the rain is going to be big for some shooters. And in a $1799 body!!
Is the 7ll as weather sealed as the pro cameras? Maybe more? It must certainly be a contender for the best sealed camera. It was hinted that you could put it under a faucet.
What else has THAT much sealing, short of an underwater camera! I'd like to see it! ;-)

But... But... I have been reading the other threads...

Only the sensor matters...

It is all about the sensor!!!!

From the wisdom in those comments I ”KNOW” that all I need to take a great picture in the rain is a superior sensor that is coated in rubber!!!

So in reality it "only" costs $25-30K?

Do any of you carry two camera bodies that use the same lenses and if so how do you use them? <snip>.

I want to get a second body, probably a 7DII, but I will not put the same lens on them. I will use two different lenses of differnt lengths.

There are people who pay $40,000 for a designer handbag. Compared to that, $40,000 for a high end, state of the art digital camera doesn't seem so bad, especially for a professional making big bucks.

The Crocodile Berkin is close to 100K. I just keep my wife far away from Hermes, though she has snuck a few scarves past me.

ISO (International Standards Organization) was just ASA (American Standards Association) going international. Well a little more than that. ASA still exists (as ANSI.) The ISO adopted ASA film standards as its base.

Oh. The question. There were ISO films at 25 and all the other ASA settings.

"no IS" - is that when your using a tripod? or is there another good reason? (I rarely shoot birds) :)

I've just read Gene's post - didn't really think about that before.

At the necessary shutter speeds it is not really needed and adds another process that slows you down.

I think it's cute that Desert Gecko took the time throw another childish rebuttal back at Sharpshooter but didn't bother to answer my questions about his beloved camera....

Nice Shot!! Now you are getting in the spirit!!

On the other hand I have unwatched some of my own posts as well and for similar reasons.
