I say leave them in. There are still traces of the lines in the "without" version. Also, there are what appear to be smokestacks and other large power lines in the distance so unless you take those out too you might as well leave them in.

I have no complaints with my "newer" 50-500mm. I can not compare to any others though since I have not used them. What I really love about it is that I do not have to change out lenses when I need to shoot something a little closer to me. Mine is paired with a Canon 6D.

I have been using a BlackRapids strap for quite a while and have never been comfortable with the attachment through the tripod mount. I have also been concerned that the attachment might come undone and cause my camera to crash to the ground.

I am using this discussion as motivation to get a new strap.

Thanks Hoggers!!!

I have been using the OpTech shoulder strap that connects to the lugs on the sides of my camera. I like it but while I was hiking a month ago I slipped and my camera took a hit. I am now looking into a Cotton Carrier. What it comes down to is what you will be doing while carrying your camera around. I have always been leery of any strap that connects into the tripod mount because I have heard several stories of cameras coming loose.
Best of luck finding what is right for you!

If you end up wanting a 50-500, you might want to consider mine, which I have not listed yet, but would like to get $500, with a Contax 86mm filter.

Are there two different versions of this lens? I have a Sigma 50-500mm and mine takes a 95mm filter. Just wondering if you have an older version of this lens and that is why yours is not as good.

Glad I made you chuckle. :D

So just where do the polar bears walk? If they don't walk on the glaci... DOH! I get it, I'm calling them glaciers when I mean icebergs. Hang on while I take my left foot out... Hey two chuckles for you today. :D

Polar bears live in the far north of the state, the cruises mainly take you to see the southeast or south central parts of the state. I myself have only seen a polar bear at a zoo. Glad you were not offended :)

I think it might be your lens. I took a look at the download of the tree and failed to see anything in focus.

Yes I know your on a cruise and some of the above may not be practical, such as skimming by a glacier during a major calving event or seeing a polar bear walking on the glacier.

Sorry! Truly not trying to make fun, but being born and raised in Alaska this made me chuckle. Thanks!

Yesterday I posted a picture in photo analysis expecting a real feedback, probably negative. Instead I had someone post an 'edit' to correct whatever.

For feedback the best place to post photos are in the Photo Critique Section. It is for critiquing only - not edits.
You can find it here.

This is actually a question I can answer and that does not happen too often around here. You can upload them all at once.
Enjoy Alaska! It is the place I call home, just wished I was up there.

Thank you for your reply. I have previously done a search but did not really see where the two have been compared much to each other.

Thanks again!

Hi! I am fairly new here and in my readings I have seen many discussions on the Sigma 150-500mm lens and rarely mentioned is the Sigma 50-500mm lens. Is the 150-500mm a better lens?
