OK. I am going out on a limb here. But has anyone suggested the SX50?

I think this is the closest to consensus I have seen on a thread here.

I shot both cameras today. All 3 lenses on each body. (6D, and 7D Mark II) I got the best results with the 70-200mm on both cameras, but the 24-70mm did great on the 6D, but a little better on the 7D Mark II. If you'll notice, I don't own a 17-50mm lens.

I only asked since you said your "my main body will be the 6D for the shoot" indicatiing you were matching lenses to that camera while you were only going to "try" the 7DII.

Maybe this thread should have been named "Why do Canon owners get so upset when other photographers are NOT JEALOUS of Canon cameras??"

I guess you did not read this thread very carefully. A lot of jealous Nikon users seem to feel the need to defend their cameras.

I'll be doing some portraits today. The customer wants head shots, waist up, and a full body. So, I'll take 3 lenses. I like to use my 24-70mm for the full body, and possible waist up, or my old 50mm f1.8. But, the work horse will be my 70-200mm 2.8L IS. Of course I'm going to try the 7D Mark II, but my main body will be the 6D for the shoot. You'll just have to take a few lenses and see what fits your shoot. I suggest you invest in a light meter if you're going to make portraits a source of income. In any event use some fill light. Oh, I've also had some great portrait shots using my 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens. Only it has a very shallow depth of field.

Since the OP is shooting an APS-C and you are shooting the 6D a FF, are you suggesting something like 17-50 as a equivelent to the 24-70 you use on the 6D? Or something else?

A lot of people in the same situation seem very happy with the SX50.

My go to lens for portraiture is the Canon 70-200 f/2.8. Excellent quality and sharpness and can control the amount of crop in camera without moving the tripod. Sometimes use the Canon 100 f/2.8.

And you are doing that with an APS-C camera?

My photography partner has a Cannon 7D and has been getting a lot of request for portraits..her question is what is the best portrait glass for her camera..my choice of camera is Nikon so I'm no help to her..

On the 7D, you could go as far down as a 35mm or even 30mm, but a 50mm like the awsome Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art lens will be a better general portrait lens on the 7D, if you want to go prime. But a budget would be helpful in answering your question.

A little off topic but does anyone have a recommendation for a good digital picture frame? I thought this would be an easy gift but too many options. I want something simple to set up, 4:3 ratio, good resolution and maybe wifi. Thanks in advance.

I think I would avoid the wifi based frames for security reasons. B&H has a lot of frames with either on board memory ( I have seen as much as 4GB) or that take various memory cards.

I like the idea of a card. I could just pop the card out of my camera and look at the days shoot.

A quick search yielded the following:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Background-Materials-Equipment/ci/1175/N/4037060750

and

http://www.backdropoutlet.com/

The second seems to have a lot of baby oriented product.

PS You should have included more in the title like

"Any tips on backgrounds for shooting babies?"

And even that would have gotten you some flack, but it would be better natured ribbing.

Ignore the "professional photographer." The only explanation that makes sense of his attitude is that he is not very good and thinks it is the equipment that makes the photographer. Therefore, he thinks, if an amateur like you gets the "pro" equipment, you challenge his status as a "professional photographer." So he has some ego problems. HE has a problem, not you. Don’t make his problem yours.

Get the 5. You will have a nice APS-C and a FF.

Enjoy your cameras.

Oh, what a misunderstanding!! Do you really not know that people have to buy so many Canons because the lifspan of them is so short. We who buy Nikon are much happier with our cameras and we can use them many years more than a Canon bought at the same time. There fore we need not as many cameras as Canon people. Of course this is bad for Nikon and good for Canon. But good for Nikon customers and bad for Canon customers. Maybe Canon will add flash to the next upgrade of the 5D. since they try to be a leader in camera technology :-D

I understand at last!!! Nikon users have low expectations and not desire to progress!!! I did not know that!! Thanks for clearing it up!

"fly fishing photography" = a sports/action based camera. It becomes about fast and acurate focusing and that is a camera issue. The 7DII would take you there with the lens you have.
