if you want to stay with Nikon and don't want to sell the farm, take a look at the D3300 or D5300. They're in the $500 - $700 range. Cameta is a good source for refurbished always my first choice.

The more choices you have, the more difficult it will be to make a choice. Basically, any modern name-brand camera will do a good job.

If you have certain requirements and a more specific budget, let us know, and we can try to narrow down the choices. There are literally a thousand possibilities.

Recently purchased Sony a6000. Can't recommend it enough. Lite weight, 24 mpx, 11 fps and dual mode focus with 179 focus pts.
Does cause severe gas though.

Okay, firstly since you wrote D50, instead of 50D, I will assume you are talking about a Nikon. That would be an older 6.1 MP digital camera. Not exactly the latest and greatest, surely. And I am assuming that you want to be a better photographer, Certainly, we all do.

I am also assuming that 'sell the farm' means that a 50MP Hasselblad H5D or even a 40MP Pentax 645D, both of which would do very well at large images are probably out of the question.

That leaves you with you. That is where I might start.

When I was young, I of course wanted the latest and greatest too. Who didn't? Something with enough 'toots and whistles' as you might say. I would stare at advertisements of equipment I could not afford, dreaming that someday I would have what it takes. Never got it.

You can get a Nikon that is newer with more pixels. They are certainly very nice cameras. But, given the tone of your post – you will not get there. That is because everything you need is already in the palm of your hand, You can make a decent print with what you already have. If you absolutely think that the camera is holding you back, and assuming that 20x16 is large enough, you might want to reconsider. Sure, increase the pixel count if you can; but remember that it is never the equipment, it the person behind the lens.

“It is a poor craftsman that blames his tools.” Sorry, but that is the truth,

What do you like to shoot? How much do you want to spend? Does size and weight matter?

There are so many choices that the more we know about what your needs and wants are the more we can help.

I didn't have gas problems with mine, but the a6000 is a great camera, and you can use just about any old manual focus lens with cheap adapters.

The neat thing about the EVF is that it has focus peaking, which makes it a breeze to manual focus.

Wanna, get the Canon 70D. It's loaded with some of the newest and latest toots, farts, bells, pissal and will actually whistle at pretty girls!!
Make sure you get the 18-135 kit lenses with it so you can make pro-like movies of all those hot girls your camera lures in.

Had it about a month, love the fast focus and 11fps. The Sony 55-210 weighs half as much as my 55-210 nikon.
