Why does EVERYBODY besides Canon shooters start seeing red when someone announces they want a Canon Camera?
It's not because the sensors are better.

So why so much insecurity and jealousy?!

Is it because Canon is #1. Is it because more pros use them than any other camera? Is it because they shoot faster? Is it because they have more AF lenses? Or maybe because in real world tests the 5Dmklll is always picked the better camera over the D810? Or because Canon sells 10x more cameras than Sony?

Canons are just a flat out better camera and the new 7Dmkll must be pretty intimidating, but why all the jealousy?!

NOW, breath iiiiin, now breath ooooout. See, the red is already going away!

This posting reminds me of my English 301 professor at Indiana State University; One day he walked in the classroom, semi drunk, and started ranting: Why most houses have a roof, why do we need an umbrella, why the cars of the early 60's look like a fish?...when nobody answered his questions he proceeded to dismiss the class....

Erik, no, I'm on break at work.
I read this day in and day out. It dominates a good percentage of post and EVERY post where someone wants to know what camera to buy.
Some just can't get past trivialness and to what's really important in photography. ;-)

I'm betting as a kid your chore was tasked to stir the soup pot so the ingredients didn't stick to the bottom, wasn't it?

SS, I shoot with a Canon.
Why do you see jealousy when I pick fault with them?

Canons are not a flat out better camera.
That is just a rhetorical blanket statement.

There are some very good Canons, there are some very good Nikons.

Canon obviously has a better marketing department.

You are manufacturing situations that do not exist in this case.

I agree. The camera is the least important factor in making a good photograph. My father shot with Nikons so naturally, when I got into photography I did too. It was what I was used to using and the most comfortable with. Had he used Canons, guess what I'd be shooting with today. Does that make Nikons better than Canons? No. Do I really care? Again, No.

I can't say I've noticed any people seeing red because someone else announces they are about to buy a Canon camera.

However, what I have been noticing are some people seeing red every time you proclaim that if a camera isn't a Canon, then it's second rate crap. Not necessarily in those words, but that does seem the general message you are pushing again and again, at every opportunity.

That is not true and is very usage dependent.
The capabilities of the camera are very important.
And that is something that SS will very much agree with given that he has been very proactive in promoting the 7D2 as a high quality sports and wildlife camera.

you seem loaded, have a simple question, whats the next step from the 70D for image quality.
Have no interest in video, focusing speed, action shooting, etc...
just looking for best image quality.

Lighthouse, I do absolutely agree with that.
Some cameras have certain attributes built into them to enable them to get a specific type of photography done. A perfect case in point are the 1dx/D4 that completely forego image quality in order to be better at shooting action. Not that the IQ sucks, they are afterall $7000 cameras.
Some of that misunderstaing happens when someone is blinded by only what THEY shoot and speak from that perspective, only.
You can shoot anything on manual, but it definately has its limits! ;-)

You don't want the next step.
You want the best step that you can afford.
